So I had my LX470 at the Lexus dealership for its 300000 klm major service (timing belt etc). On the drive home I stop through a drive through for lunch and roll the window down, the car is making a terrible sound. I roll forward maybe 10 metres to the window and the sound gets loud enough to stop the engine. It was making a really loud continuous *clank* sound. I had some people from the restaurant push me into a park in neutral. I popped the bonnet and the main belt is shredded and off all the pulleys.

Lexus sent a flat bed tow truck and took it back to the Service Centre.

My question to you legends is what am I in for?

What should I expect when they call me in the morning?

Your engine internals should be ok. Just depends on what the serpentine belt hit as it whipped around. A belt replacement is the best outcome.

To replace the timing belt the shop has to remove the serpentine belt. Do you know if they reused the original or if they replaced it? Seems like this failure would be associated with the dealer touching it so I might look for them to cover the repair.
