Will a toyota diesel like 3b bolt to my three speed trans? Was thinking since I live close to canada, I could drive a few hours north to aquire a toyota diesel for <2000 and If it bolted up to the transmission, that would be an "easy" swap.

Haven't searched this issue that much. Figured toyota bellhousing pattern is the same but wasn't sure about models and year changes.

You could adapt it to a 6.2 Detroit Diesel (Chevy/GMC) and save yourself the drive.

The first thing to do in a swap like that would be to junk the three speed transmission!

The input shaft on even a four speed is too short to work with the 3B.

You escentially need a 4/5 speed diesel transmission. 5 speeds(always ?) are usually bolted to a split case T-case which rarely has a sock e-brake on the back of it.

I'd recommend buying a rusty bj60 (which won't be hard to find) for $1200-1500 and swap the drivetrain, axles and all. Probably easiest to drive it home and do it there. If it's more than 25 years old it should be easy to import. Take the whole truck... You'll need the rad or to modify your's as well.

I didn't say it would be sporty... I drove a blazer with a 6.2 and a 3-speed auto the other day. It wasn't bad around town.

In my opinion, the land cruiser three speed is too heavy for a paper weight and too light for a dog tie out... It's not worth a damn thing.

With a 3b, h55 and split transfer case would there be any driveline angle/length issues?

I have looked on CL in British Columbia and I think I can get the whole shebang for a couple grand.

Already have a 60's series front axle, would rather just drive across the border, throw engine/trans/transfer in the back of the truck and if anyone asks- it's going in a off road, non street legal vehicle. Which is half true

Should be able to part out a $1200-1500 truck and give the rest away... Might even find a mud member who'd help with a driveway. You'll want the engine controller and a whole bunch of other stuff... I'd also want the E-brake rear axle...

You'd be surprised what some guys will do for free beer, and leftover parts...

Your 3 speed frame cross member and tranny tunnel will need modification... And you'll need to modify the 60 tranny crossmember. however, the h55 and 3b fit fine in bj43s stock 84ish.

Yes, there is driveline issues. You will have to shorten the rear and lengthen the front. I just replaced the blown up 3B/4 speed in my BJ42 with a newer 3B / 5 speed. I drove up to EBI in Port Coquitlam and picked up the whole shebang. I looked for awhile for a rusted out BJ60 on CL, but didn't find one for a price I was willing to pay.

Working with EBI was great. They warned I might have to pay a 6% duty at the border, but I didn't have to pay. Steve at EBI said that some of his customers have to pay, but usually not. The border guard asked what I was up to. I told him I "picked up" not bought, an engine out of an 83 Land Cruiser to put into a project Land Cruiser. He looked it over and then waived me past. No biggie. You can check out my build thread in my sig line if you want more info.

On a side note, I have a blown up 3B and 4 speed with transfer case if you want. I "think" the 3B can be rebuilt, but I'm not sure. Read my build thread and PM me if you want more details. I'd make you a fair deal.
