Michael,
Middle east spec seldom comes with diesel engine,1%. Your suspecting of engine swapped is pretty obvious.

The black cover of the timing belt is a very late 1HZ, 99 model onwards. Is screwed up no by clips.:D What year is your 75? again.

Any guess as to why the tensioner broke?

No not really. I had it off, torqued it when I put it back in, however the bolt hole (after examing after the incident) seemed pretty worn. So I retapped it and one putting it back together (hopefully for the last time) I use Lock tight (blue) to ensure it stays tight.

Cheers,

Michael

I think you misunderstand, this is definitely a factory Diesel, VIN and all part on it prove that, just this is not the original 1HZ that came in the truck. This was the first one we found and it was in Dubai, after words we found where are the diesel were hiding in ME.

Cheers,

Michael

Oh, yeah this is the same year as what goes in the 1998 HZJ75, it has the screws, the tention piston Idler, and the head gasket and deck height is the same as a late 1HZ engine, so they did swap it with the same year, or they just pulled the block inlet and outlet and plugged them, one or the other. I guess I could try to track down the block number with the chassis number but I don't think that is as easy as doing it on an american made vehicle.

Cheers,

Michael

Looking good Mike.

So, when you going to sell it to me?:grinpimp:

Ah the old question about selling it. Well I can never say I will not sell it, last time I did that, I ended up selling my New HZJ79 series pickup.

Here is the truth for you, I have a lot of time and $$ in this HZJ75, would I sell it, yes, but I would need to get $38k to make it worth selling it, and to be honest I don't think it is worth that much, so anyone who really wants it needs to know that. I am not trying to sell it and I very happy keeping it, sure I wish I did not put that much effort and time into it but that is water under the bridge (I do think it means more to me because of that).

Cheers,

Michael

This is very rare! Diesel in Dubai.
As long as you're happy with it.

Dear experts:
It is so impressive to look at and read what you are doing. Thanks for sharing.
I need a huge help.
I am not an expert. I live in North of Pakistan: the foothills of Himalayas. Bought an HZJ 75, 1993, recently, with a view to modify and upgrade it for long overlanding travel. This is a pickup with a single cab chassis. The space in cabin is very cramped. Seat has no space behind it to slide back enough.
I am overweight and oldish: turned 60. Would love to have better space inside the cabin.
Question: Is it easy to fit a double cab pickup cabin onto this chassis? (without any welding to the chassis, etc. ). Or do I need big changes? I hope I can search for and buy a used double cab pickup cabin.
If big changes are needed, I am reluctant. I then may decide to sell this and go for a Troopy where the seat is free to go back.

Hello,

Mounting a 79 Series double cab would require some fabrication, time and money.

Get yourself a Troopy and do not look back.

Thanks Juan. I have my eyes on a Troopy. It is an older version. With a B3 diesel engine. Still looks good. If I buy it, will then ask for opinion again, re how to make it worthy of travelling long distances.
Thanks again Sir

Hello,

The 3B engine is reliable but parts are becoming hard to source.

If the engine is in good shape, an overhaul will keep it running.
