I am ordering some beadlocks for my fj40.

I am going with a 3.50 backspace..

Should i get 17x8 or 17x10??

Tires are bfg mt km2 35x12.5

I just did the same except i went with 37" tires and the 10" was recomended to me.

i think I might go 17x8 that way i can go tall and skinny or fat meats.

it dosnt seem that the 10" will give me that versatility?

you might be surprised, most 17's aren't going to come in anything but 17x9 or close....17x10 is a standard rim, then you narrow them some to add the beadlock ring setup.

I have a set of 17x8.5 TrailReady steelies (3.5" backspacing) with the wide alum ring keeping my 37" PitBull Rockers on my FJ40....and ordered another set of identical TrailReadys today with their thinner ring for the 39" PitBull MadDogs I'm picking up in January...

i like 8 inch wide on beads,

would not go wider than that if i didnt have to

great thanks for all the feedback.

I guess the 17x8 is the way to go.

For some reason chosing the wheels has been the hardest decision for me on my rig. anyone agree?

Yes I agree! I say just don't get anything to expensive...

I don't have bead locks on my cruiser...but am running 35 12.5's on steel 15X10....2.5 backspacing. Tell me the reason is better to run an eight inch wide rim with bead locks with this tire? Wouldn’t it ware abnormally on the pavement? Or is that not really a factor...he he.

I dont know i dont think that it will wear abnormally?

I thought a wider 10 inch wheel was the way to go but apparently not.

'generally accepted rim width principles' state that a rim should be about 2/3 of the tire section width for good bead retention

12.5 * .66 = something a little more than 8"...

you can lose inner beads too...and you will not experience 'poor' road manners following this 'rule' either

I just know that I have had the same size tire "12.5 wide" on 8 inch wide rims and the tires wore in the middle of the tire more than the outside...

at what pressure? overinflation is the cause of center tire wear....a SEVERELY narrow rim can cause it, but an 8" rim with a 12.5" tire isn't an issue\

i think 40 is high

Yeah maybe so...seems to drive straight like that...but that is with 10" rims...Certainly not over exceeding the pressure @ 40...the tire has a rating of 50 psi if I remember right...
What rim did you decided to go with?

I have mtrs 35 12.5 but with a 8 in rim I like it plus I guess with the bead lock it puts me to 9" rim And have a nice tire wear

here is a pic of the wheel . i paid for it today i just have to specify the size and backspacing so they can ship tommorrow. they are allied forged beadlocks. 275 each

what's the tire rated max pressure?

Your door jamb probably recommended 32psi....for smaller tires with a lower load rating than what you installed....EVERY tire size and brand will have a different load rating, and pressures need to be adjusted to match....and the OEM pressure is always their compromise for load, handling and wear anyways.

35-40 is quite high....I'd guess 28-32 for the max, and front and rear would be different...

I also run my tires higher on the highway for less rolling resistance....but air them down a lot for the trail...

so what do you think about the wheels? not a bad price ?? I got them off ebay. the guy has more available let me know if you need his number. he also has the allied monster 1 piece forged which is the one i wanted but the backspacing is 5" which we cant use on our fj40s
