I am starting to save for a set of 36's. I'll probably pick them up towards the end of the year. I have also been reading up on DIY beadlocks and thought I might fab a set to go with the new tires.
Reading info from sites selling the kits it looks like they add about 2" to the width of a rim. I will hunt for a replacement set of rims to build up over the summer, but I am wondering just what width would work best for beadlocks. It might also be a good time to look at the backspacing to help avoid interference with the leaf springs when running larger tires.
I currently run 33x12.5x15's on 15x8 rims and they are perfect. I plan to look for tires 12.5 up to 14.5 wide. Would I be better off with a 7" wide rim? That would put the mounting surface width nearer to 9" with the beadlocks. I am also thinking about using a 2.5" backspace so I get better clearance in the rear wheelwells and so the tires won't hit the springs at full turn.
What are others running?
