Because of the stupidest display of assholeness I have ever seen on this board. Woody would be a fool to let that kind of feeding frenzy go on against a good vendor.

It was simply mob psychology.

I personally have been running dual blue tops in the 40 for about 7 years, and a blue top in the 55 for about a year.

We are also currently using 17 blue tops in our business, all without a failure. Now, because of the nature of the beast, sometimes they will discharge below 10 or so volts, necessitating different methods of bringing them back to life, but, if you are using a product, you need to know it's strengths and weaknesses.

I lost a yellow top a few years ago. I think it was my fault, but it may have been a failure in teh product. I do not know. No product is 100% good all the time. That is the nature of manufacturing.

Just my .02.

You may call it assholedness, but I feel it ok to tell how a yellow top left me stranded and I had two red tops die before thier time. If Jim wants to spew his optima spam, he should be able to withstand hearing the bad side too. Woody made a bad call. The thread was in chat. Locking a thread like that smacks of vendor influence and makes me regret buying a star.

Typos sent from my HTC EVO using the IH8MUD app...

I hope everyone realizes that merely talkiing about batteries will awaken Karma, and she's a stone-cold b!tch.

Rob's got it down. Have you noticed Rob is only talking about warranties... :)

Warranties are your friend

Right now Im running about 6 or 7 different branded batteries and not one jumps out in terms of performance:meh:

I will never buy another SEARS die hard again!:flipoff2:<without the smile
I need to locate the old lady that does returns for Discount tire.

FJ40LVR, as an employee of Optima, I am not allowed to recommend products made by other companies, including batteries or chargers. I can tell you that AGM batteries in general are far superior to their flooded counterparts.

re_guderian, I don't know the exact nature of Optima's relationship with this site as I'm not on the advertising side of things, but I do know I don't have "Vendor" underneath my screen name. I'm sure Woody was monitoring that thread, but I made no contact with him regarding it. In fact, I had a post typed up and ready to go that I was not able to post because it was locked. If you would like, I can share it with you via PM.

Jim,

I don't want a PM from you. If you have something to say, start a thread in your own club's forum or post it in a forum where all can see it - like Chat. I'd prefer to keep your spam out of the Copper State Cruisers forum. Your post is disingenuous at best. For you to say that you don't have "vendor" under your name is technically correct - because you don't, but then if you didn't represent a vendor you wouldn't be posting on a Land Cruiser forum, or an Arizona forum, or any of the other 100's of forums you monitor. You ARE a vendor, you work for a company, and your only interest in posting on this Land Cruiser forum is to pimp Optimas. That makes you a vendor (in my mind), and your attempts to mask that make your intentions all the more clear. "Oh-hey-not-me, I'm-not-a-'vendor', I'm-just-here-to-dispell-all-negativity-about-Optimas". You're a vendor. Period.

As to the Chat thread, you give yourself too much credit. Woody does NOT monitor every thread in chat, and threads ONLY get locked when they come to the attention of a moderator via a PM, a reported post, or an e-mail. For you to insinuate that Woody just happened upon that thread in casual reading, was shocked at what he saw, and locked the thread is ludicrous. The thread was no where near over the line but SOMEBODY reported it. It may not have been you, but you, and the company that pays you to represent it, certainly benefited from it.

One of the things I have always liked about MUD, and that keeps me chipping in $20/year, is the neutrality of the information here. You, quite frankly, are jacking that up. You are a paid shill for Optima.

BTW, I reported your post that I quoted here, and recommended that you be banned from the IH8MUD forum as a spammer unless you present yourself as a vendor. If you are allowed here to post as you please without a vendor star, what's to stop all the battery reps from joining here and turning this into a full-on Peterson's rag?

:meh:

I don't see a problem with Jim trying to defend his company's product, as long as he is clear on who he is and who he represents. As a matter of fact, I appreciate the information he gives. The thread that was locked was full of garbage chat posts and was a pile on. I was hoping for some information in that thread, but my questions got lost in all the garbage posts. I'm still hoping for my questions to be answered, I guess when I have some time I'll go back to that thread and quote my last few posts back here. I don't see a need for PM's, there's a thread right here with many people asking questions and looking for info.

Optima does advertise on the site, extensively, but thru a 3rd party Vendor rather than directly.

If you'd prefer, I can tell Jim to quit trying to be helpful in threads, and just allow their product to be bashed unabatedly by the masses. I've ALWAYS encouraged businesses to answer questions and be helpful with regards to their products. I'd rather have a business providing answers and being helpful (and not directly supporting) than have them sit on the sideline and have their hands tied. Seems to be the best way to get open communication.

The only time I step in is if the business is doing nothing but soft-selling. Jim is trying to be helpful with regards to product issues and complaints, and he takes those back to management. As you may have noted, he's researched a few members and their complaints, only to find a dozen discrepancies in their list of issues.

I've got 4 Optima's in use right now and have run them for almost 10 years. Zero complaints. I've got two that I destroyed with my own issues, like a shorted starter that took out the alternator, battery, and more.

--------

If you'd like, I'll just comp Jim a Vendor star...he's been very helpful with my questions on batteries, and we've emailed and chatted a few times regarding forum discussions and how to best approach.

Or, I can tell Jim to just stay away from the Copper State section.

Regarding the thread, I try and fine all 'bitch' threads and monitor them daily. The Optima thread was degenerating into a bandwagon of idiots posting stupid comments. It served it's purpose, and was Closed...note that it was NOT deleted.

On another note, allowing these 'bitch' thread to occur at all has cost me 4-5 advertising contracts. As I tell them all, I'm not their Marketing team or their cleanup crew. Allowing open and honest communication regarding business/Vendor issues has been something I've always believe in, and something that irritates me to no end with other forums and their 'protective' attitude. Screw that.

On a side note, I guarantee most people admire and look up to Jim...he's 7'6" tall, I know I look up, a lot!

Personally Jim has been very helpful to me and I have several Optima Batteries. With that said I would like him to stay on the forum and the CSC section. As for others that dont care for Jim's input the ignore feature is still available, yes?

Every member on 'MUD can be ignored, other than me...I try and keep a non-controversial profile ;)

This message is hidden because woody is on your ignore list.

Hey, can someone quote this so I can see what the Benevolent Dictator said?

Just kidding...

Woody,

If you want to comp OptimaJim a vendor star, that is fine with me, it's your forum. I don't really care how it's paid for, just that his posts are represented for what they are - a vendor-paid post. I'm pretty sure that if Johnson Controls stopped paying Jim that he wouldn't still frequent all those forums he belongs to.

I have no problem with Jim's helpful advice, what rubs me the wrong way is that there was a tone of "don't say anything bad about Optima" under the guise that MUD might be on the path of "severly lacking proper moderation" a la other forums Jim referenced . Frankly, the thread in Chat got off-track, (don't they all after about 12 posts?), but not maliciously so. I think it's useful that people get first-hand information, both good and bad, about a product. Maybe remind the posters to get on track, or create a Vendor or Battery sub-forum to contain these threads. I'm sure Jim's advice has helped some, but personally, when a Yellow-top left me, my wife, and two kids stranded in the desert on an August afternoon, I didn't give a crap if there was some documented process to resuscitate the battery. What I needed was a capacitive energy storage device to rotate my starter, and RTF now. And it failed at that very basic task. I think it's fair that people understand what they do - and don't - get for the AGM premium price. Ability to power a winch while upside down was irrelevant to the question of "Which Battery?" at that moment in time. Jim swears that Optima quality is better than ever, but if a vendor gets to claim that, I'd sure like to ask for some supporting data for it given the litany of members with poor Optima experiences.

So, yes, if you want to, comp Jim a vendor star. I really don't care how he gets it, but it seems like the right thing to do (be classified as a vendor). He seems to be the first, but probably not the last, of the "e-care managers" that will blur the line of individual contributor tech-help and vendor. I don't want to have to read through posts and try to ascertain the motives that might skew the validity of the information I'm getting. He didn't get to be a member of MUD because he owns a Land Cruiser, he got here to promote Optima, and help solve Optima issues.

As to your advertising contracts that get lost, I don't know what to say. As a star-buying member for over 6 years, I'm sure my $120 pales in comparison to what has become your livelihood over the years. All I can say is please continue to walk that fine line. I desperately don't want MUD to become a vendor-influenced site, not in the least, and this topic got my hackles up a bit.

if I comp Jim, I'll be stuck comping dozens...not going to happen...

manufacturers have always been welcome to respond regarding product questions, and they always will be.

If you dislike how Jim or someone else approaches it, then place his username on ignore.
