Best post so far on the subject:cool:

I am not putting down an age on my batteries, this is a sure fire recipe to waking up with a dead battery. Any battery over three years old in Arizona is living on borrowed time, most of us have been lucky with many different brands, thus far. Optima and Diehard, somewhere in the world someone is pissed off at both of them and ready for something different.

Tell me I am wrong

Battery is toast in the hundy and I need some advice as to what to replace it with. I am thinking group 31 Die Hard Platinum as this will be my main starting battery and then maybe buy a blue top for a dual batt setup. Any advice is appreciated.

Justin

They're all going to die, so I get the one with the longest warranty at autozone.

X2, shop by price/warranty. Costco has great warranty service.

I was a believer in Optima’s and had one in my Toyota for 7 years and another for 6 years and sold the vehicles. Then i replaced a battery in a new vehicle when the factory battery went caput. But I had issues with it and then started reading on line and talking to other clubs and they seem to have started producing them in China. The word was that they started putting less led in the battery and you could weight them and there was a difference. I returned the battery to Costco for a full refund and bought a blue top. it is still running and keeps a charge for months. I bought a yellow top and it has the same issue as the one I returned. if it sits for a week when I put the charge on it, it want to charge like it was discharged. I went back to check the store and the warranty was 1 year replacement. Then I noticed the blue top was 1,800 months and the red was 3 years. Why did they start cutting back on the warranty? Now i hear they have upped the warranty again, since they started losing money.

I started looking at the sears diehard and it has a 4 year replacement for roughly $10 TO $20 dollars more. Sears is everywhere. it has a 7 year warranty prorated from 4 to 7 years. I have 2 vehicles i installed them in and they have been flawless for 3 years. I spoke to other clubs and the optima craze is being replaced by the Sears Platinum. Optima wanted to cheap out and make crappier batteries and still charge the same money while cutting back the warranty to save money. Sorry I will not support a firm that does that kind of crap. I buy only sears platinum, if only for the better warranty. Plus if seems to have a better spec on things like cranking amps and reserve. Hey just my opinion. I do not buy Bridgestone tires because the CEO knew about the Firestone tire issues and all the deaths associated with it for over 20 years and did nothing about it.
If you piss me off then you lose my buying power.

As Phil learned recently, Sears will only warranty a Die Hard one time. Then you're hosed. In Az, I'm not buying a battery unless they are all backed with a warranty.:meh:

BTW, Sears and Optima both employ internet stalkers, so, I'm betting they'll be in here with their panties in a bunch anytime now.

Sears Platinum Marine is a 3 year full replacement with zero pro-rating after the 3 years. If your Marine is 1 day over the 3 years you get ZERO! I would only use a Sears Platinum Marine as a boat anchor.

Was this a group 31 batt? My only concern with buying a batt from Costco is there are not Costcos everywhere like Sears is. Does Interstate make a group 31 Batt? The interstate warranty through Costco is 7 years correct? I would need a group 31 Marine Interstate batt for my duel batt system so does Interstate make such a thing?

It is an oversize battery mostly used in commercial applications.

Yes, Interstate sells group 31, in a couple of versions, but you wont find them at Costco. Costco carries common batteries, even the group 27F & 24F that are the original spec for most Toyota trucks, have been updated to newer/smaller sized batteries, so the original sizes are not carried at Costco. Batteries have become more efficient, make more power from the same size box, so the newer spec numbers are smaller with the same output as the originals were.

For the best selection go to the Interstate store on Broadway in Mesa. Will likely pay slightly more than Costco, but I have gotten great service from them. They have offered a CSC discount account, but I haven't had the chance to set it up, yet.:o

It is refreshing to see that the pile it on higher and deeper gangbang that happened in chat hasn't happened here.

There were like a pack of hyenas.

tomorrow morning will be a new test . . .

Justin, if you are running more than one battery in a vehicle and they are not isolated from each other, they need to be identical in age, size and type. Mclement85308, while several battery brands source their batteries from China, we do not. We do manufacture our own batteries in our own facility in Monterrey and we never re-brand or re-spec them for any of our retail partners. You can watch a video of our production facility here.

I have also heard rumors about our batteries weighing less now, but that simply is not the case. The free replacement warranty period for our batteries has only increased in length under JCI's ownership and I've never heard of any battery offering a 150-year (1,800 month) warranty on their products. I would encourage anyone considering a battery purchase to review the warranty terms and conditions prior to making a purchase. You can view all of our warranty information here. What was the voltage of the batteries you were having issues with?

re-guderian, I have never asked to have any thread locked here or on any other site. I understand people can get upset over things and want to vent and I'm fine with that, as long as they remain civil about it. I prefer to answer questions and correct misinformation, but I can also understand and respect Woody's desire to exercise moderation on his own site. I am active on other sites that are severely lacking proper moderation and they are not better for it.

I am in the market for New batteries at the moment, what brand would you recommend - Sears DiHard Platinum, or Odyssey?

So you're implying this was a random thread lock on Woody's part without any reporting/PM/e-mail or any other attention being drawn to it?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: <- there aren't enough of these.
