Looking for a rider or another vehicle to join me on a trip down Baja to Cabo San Lucas in August. (yeah, I know it's gonna be hot)

Leaving Columbus (tentive) on August 13th and will be in Phoenix for a days layover then try the boarder crossing near Yuma, AZ.

Plan to spend 2 weeks exploring Baja. If your interested in riding along or tagging along in your vehicle...shoot me a PM or email here mark@markvanmeter.com

Camping will be the protocal except in Cabo.

TIA,

hot?

No.

It will be HOT! :)

It is not only HOT HOT HOT in August. It is extremly Humid on the Gulf side. The Pacific is not bad at all but the Sea of Cortez side is Hell. I have been down in August, and I would not do it again.

Been on the BajaNomad forums talking to folks in the know and they say the same..HOT..but doable for sure. Hell, it's 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity here in Ohio about that time.

It will be fun. Looking like I have the passenger seat taken...

Bring the Heat!

Well, I might be interested in tagging along. Let's discuss about 3 months prior as I need to check out my school schedule.

Right on! The more the merrier. Have been diggin around in the Baja forums and laying out some stuff in Google Earth.

Snorkle, camp, wheel, fish, the works. Plan to spend 2 full weeks south of the boarder explorin with a couple days layover in Cabo to party with Sammi:grinpimp:

I've been everyhwere between the Bay of LA and La Paz probably ten times in August. I love it. You'll have a great time.

Everyone on the BajaNomad forums say the same thing. Stick to the Pacific side if ya' can but don't let it stop you from explorin'

Have had a ton of people send me GPS points of interest and campsites etc...

Thanks for the input;)

Glad you found BajaNomad. Good folks. My only comment is that anytime spent in Baja is good time. I've suffered through some excessive heat, storms, blowing sand on the beaches ... and it's all good. All part of the adventure. Oh, don't let those kids in green bother you. Guess which ond is me. Ya, there is a story here, told at BajaNomad, of course.

I'll do some diggin' over there. Cool pic! I hear they are sending 3K federalies into Tijuana to get a grip on the narco traffickers.

Prolly gonna see a few of those boyz while down there. Hoping to cross at Tecate or Mexicali

Why not take the adventure route down the gulf side? Cross at Algodones. Way easy, especially first thing in the morning. Besides, gotta stop at Gonzaga Bay for lunch. Then Coco's Corner for a Coca-Cola and a glance at the ol' man's ceiling.

Plenty of camping along the way, either on the beaches, or in the hills.

I like that idea alot. Been totally bombarded with info and pretty much could spend months roaming around down there. Everyone says I gotta go to Shari's place midway on the Pacific side.

I'm putting those 2 places you mentioned in my notes and will look at them on Google Earth.

Ya, know though...Tracks4Africa has an overlay for GE updated by travelers on the fly for real accurate road info, etc..

Too bad theres not something like that for Baja.

I'll be at Shari's in March.

What is it? I emailed Shari but have yet to get a reply. DavidK over there and Bajagypsy gave me the Coordinates for the GPS.

She runs it as a B&B, but when you talk to her it's just her home that she opens up to Baja travelers. I've never been there, this will be my first time. Usually I camp, but I'm turning 50 down there so I'm treating myself.

Ahhh...gotcha...will give us a trip report if you will. Happy early birthday! Very cool..

I sent Shari a U2U last week and just heard back today. She might have been out/busy. I was asking if her place was still OK after all the earthquakes and if I was still welcome. Her response:

Oh hell yeah...until we fall into the sea!

Temps are risin'. Must be dat' Baja Fever.

Damn...that's tight. Great pic. I'll u2u Shari. This trip is gonna be amazing.

I am just starting to seriously think about going to Baja the first week in august or so. (will be in the neighborhood)
Never been, always wanted to go.
My problem is there seems to be almost too much information out there to wade through, that BajaNomad site looks like a wealth of resources and I did not even know it existed till you guys mentioned it.

So anyway:
What kind of hot are you thinking of here?
What is the weather in August like on the Pacific side?
Most information regarding places to visit/things to see, seems to pertain to the eastern shore. Is there a reason for this?
Is there a big difference between the eastern and western shore?

At this point I am beginning to think that it will just be plain to damn hot, and possibly inhumane for our faithful canine traveling companion. What are your thoughts?
Kevin R.
