I just got this camera. How did you guys route/get the video cable into the cabin by the tools/jack? It looks like you have to fish the wire by the wiper motor and go up the hatch, then pop off both ends of the grommet (by the wiper hose) and get the wire through there then drop it down. Is that what you guys did? Thanks!

That’s what I did, I think. I took all the panels off the rear hatch and then some on the inside of the top.. then pushed through the rubber seal. Watch that seal though. Mine was not back on all the way (just a little off) and water poured into the car in a car wash.

I bought a mount like this to change out my license plate camera I'm using. Unfortunately it kind points at the ground... anyone else have that issue? I'm thinking about finding a way to wedge the camera up or something...

I have this exact issue - I thought it was just me! I can see my bumper really well though. I already siliconed mine in, but was thinking the same. Some kind of shim on the back half carved out of some rubber or plastic.

Ya I can't settle for this lol, my mirrors are more useful than this camera orientation. It's almost like a bad bird's eye view, but it makes me disoriented looking between that and the mirrors. Going to play with it tonight...

Sorry to ressurrect this old thread, but did anyone ever figure our a good way to fix the angle on this camera? I just installed this on my LX and it's nearly unusable due to the angle.

Yes and working great through a few seasons now, but it ain't special: I used double sided 3M tape to "model" it into a usable angle. I drove around like that for a few days moving it a bit, redoing the tape. It was hot out so it was easy to work with. Once I found a position I liked, I kept the tape in there and sort of created an epoxy resin over-mold kind of deal to make it permanent.

Did anyone have a problem with this (or similar) unit not fitting correctly? I mean it falls out of the hole it's supposed to sit into.

The one I did was a bit loose so I put some rubber sticky foam on one end, as well as across the back to angle the camera a bit more. Fits snug now.

Thanks! I think some foamy double sided tape should do the job.

It was a PITA to send the RCA through the rubber piece that connects the body and the tail door though. Took half a day to wire it up:D

@l3n0x , you are right about the difficulty of pulling the RCA through the rubber booth that connects the tail door and the body. If I remember correctly, I may have cut the connector off, and then attached the wire to a wire pulling fish tape to pull it through, and then reattached the RC connector. Also, I used "wire pulling lubricant". I had never heard of wire pulling lubricant until I did this job, and I don't think I could have done it without it. Search "wire pulling lubricant" on amazon and you should see it, it was a life saver.

Also, I gave up on the intelligent tracks camera, I presume this worked based on an accelerometer in the camera that sensed when you were turning and then moved the tracks/lines on the display. But in reality, this never really worked well and was really annoying...

I installed one of the cheap ebay ones last year also. Mine was loose as well. It does the job, but the camera has a poor field of view so I'm looking at options to replace it. I think I'll most likely buy a nicer camera and use one of the stock tag light lenses to mate it to. Looking at this one on amazon.

If anyone knows of a better and similarly sized camera I'm all ears.

So am I correct in seeing that there are a few posts indicating that we can use reverse cameras from some newer Toyota vehicle models? I really want to upgrade my '06's reverse camera but not really looking to use a china make from Amazon.

I purchased something similar to the camera that started this thread, but it seemed to address the angle problem that some had issues with:

Does it have active lines on the screen?

I'm not sure, that wasn't one of my priorities and I still have yet to receive and install.

I don't see how you're going to get useful active lines, w/o reading the steering wheel angle.

ahh, I want one with out the intelligent tracks. Our vehicles are too tall for them to work correctly I think.

Can you please measure the length between the 2 tabs on the bracket before you install it? I would like to use my camera with this bracket.
