was wondering if anyone on here has mounted a backup camera in the front of there rig for some extra eyes, i know it will not replace a spotter, but if you are alone, wonder if it would be better than nothing. folks just had one installed on there denali, am impressed with the quality, thay had a old one on there 25' camper that was useless. as cheap as they are was thinking of mounting 2 and some lights as well.

I think it is a good idea. Be sure you get the correct video image. A bought a camera that had very good image quality for price (audiovox) but it is not mirror image and I am using it for a backup camera so the image ends up being backwards. My head unit (kenwood) may allow me to reverse the image but I haven't figured it out yet.

Some of the new cars like the LX570 has a camera under the right side mirror pointed at the ground. And one in the nose as well, but its a funky fish eye thing.

i did some looking ,think a gopro camera will work for live feed , if so ,going to get one and try it.

I have a 2011 LX 570 with the camera up front. It is pretty nice. The side camera is great for letting you see how far your rockers are from a tree or rock.

I think it would be a great idea. If I ever put a new head unit in my 80 I will be adding front and rear cameras.

Wheeled with a great guy with a FJC last year that had two camera's up front. One was over the wheel giving him a great view of where his tire was going, the other was centered up front.

Never saw the guy sticking his head out his window, strain to find a line, nor get stuck anywhere.

Pretty darn cool.

I once saw a thread, can't remember if it was on a Tundra or 4runner forum, where someone had multiple cameras mounted in front & underneath. He could see exactly where he was placing his tires.

My head unit has an added video input so I put an HD camera on my ARB. Handy some of the time for parkin . It also watches my winch

eBay/Amazon has regular camera(not reversed signal) for sale for cheap. I have it on mine and it works fairly well, unfortunately my HU doesn't have HD display so it's only useful for parking. For offroad it's harder to see but still helpful when all you can see is sky.

I installed a rear and front camera to display in the head unit.

Rear is wired to turn on on reverse and either one can be turned on manually with this three position switch that matches the buttons nicely.

I used this camera after trying a couple others and like the wide angle. It can also be wired to be reversed or normal so it can be used front and rear. You can also choose for it to show reference distance lines or not.

I also covered it in plast dip for extra protection and they have been under water a few times.

After helping rescue an off-roader that rolled down a 100' drop because he didn't see where the road went on a steep downhill I decided on installing the front camera to aim low but is easily adjusted by simply pushing it up or down.

The way I usually have it You can see the horizon on the top edge but mainly aims to the ground in front. It works great when taking that steep down hill without having to get out and check which way the trail goes.

My buddy with a huge lifted dodge has one. Seems pretty useful... forward visibility is even worse with his truck than with an 80.

I've been thinking about doing this as well but using my center dif lock swich to turn the front camera on and off although after reading this thread I may just use a 3 position rocker. I'll be curious to see how well it actually works if nothing else it will help with tight parking down town.

I ran the $75 special from Costco on the front of my Piggy about 15-20 years ago. Well worth the money to me . The wifey liked it too, as she had less spotting duties!

Location, location, location. I highly recommend using a rare earth magnet to hold the camera in different places to find where is best for your use. I ended up mounting mine just below the headlight on the pass side, so right in front on top of the tire. It show me what that tire will hit in about 3 feet. It has been a life saver, and sometimes kind of funny... Homer thought that tree was too close....
