there are oem optionas as well as other auto manufacturers...are you wanting something factory? or just something?

most people here in usa put suki sammi seats in rear or a rear seat for a minivan...you are in OZ correct?

Hey Johnny, Yes mate in Auz, Wonder what 2 buckets in the back would look like?. Just wont have room for any other stuff hey?. Maybe a 2 seater that folds away?
Just dunno

Somebody makes a twin fold and tumble J**p rear seat that allows you to use one at a time or both. I looked but can't find it now. Looked pretty cool. Good luck strappin that little guy down.

In my experiences, the best set up for kids in the back of a Jeep or FJ40 is a simple bench seat. Couple that with what ever car seat that they are sporting at the time and change them out as they grow into bigger seats.

For off roading, you would want to go with 5 point belts in the car seat...Britax would be the best solution in that respect.

If you are set on buckets...I think that PRP still makes a kid specific bucket (I think that it was originally designed for Kiddy drag racing :))

I like those Mazda seats, any idea what year/model? More pics of that setup please.

I rebuilt an OEM rear fold down FJ40 seat, and installed modern seat belts so I could take my grand kids for a ride in the Oregon dunes.
Before loading up the grand kids, I had my son take me for a checkout ride. It was the worst ride of my life, So as not to appear as a wimp , I sucked it up and finished the ride.
If You plan on taking any back seat passengers for a ride off-road, take a ride back there to ensure they will have an enjoyable safe experience.
I installed a bench seat from a Toyota pickup, now the kids ride up front with me. (much better).

1. What seats do you have in the front.
2. What year Mazda did you get the rear seats from?
3. Do you have a build up thread or pics of the project.
4. Where did you get that carpet kit?

Thanks!

From a previous post:

Below is my Con-Fer seat. I scored this on ebay for around $280 New in box/never used (although it was probably sitting around for at least 15 years or longer). Then dropped a few more dollars to have it reupholstered so the color and stitching were more like OEM upholstery. The last picture shows where I installed heavy duty steel rings to the seatbelt latch that then attach to the "LINK" system for child safety seats. I put the seat back pretty far in the tub so there would be more leg room for passengers vs more storage space behind. Though there is still enough space to put some necessities.

Maybe he's bigger than this but I put two big u-bolts through the floor and tethered the baby seat in, just like on a modern car where the u-bolts are between the seat back and seat? The front of the seat I drilled some holes in the plastic and hooked it to the frame of the front seats. Legal? Hmmm... but the kids sure love it!

In Aus the rear seats and mounts have to be engineered and for a baby seat you'd need to have proper harness mounts put in and engineered as well. Failure to do so not would not only possibly put Jacko at risk, but would lead to fines and a defect notice. Most coppers are aware that 90% of the FJs in Aus don't have rear seats fitted unless they are factory side mounted ones.

TJ J**p fold and tumble seats fit
Suzuki Sierra fold and tumble seats fit - that's what I have, but I haven't yet installed them
I've been told that Suzuki Vitara rear seats fit
There are a bunch of minivan/bongo bus seats that fit - depends on what they have at the wreckers. Take a measuring tape with you and see what they've got.

Probably the best and safest bet for a baby seat is a fixed rear seat with headrests which you can unbolt and remove any time the young bloke isn't going along for the ride and you need the storage space. You may also want to splash out on a family roll cage which runs the full length of the tub. I think that you need to have the cage padded too if you're carrying pax in the rear.

To answer your question in the 2004 thread bump, Mud is an international site with a mainly US and Canadian membership. Plenty of Aussies, Poms, Kiwis on here though.
