I was reading about the new 30 spline longs, and the torque test on the long field site said the new longs could handle as much torque as a 35 spline dana 60. However, it also said that the new longs could twist up to 90 degrees before breaking as opposed to the dana 60 that can handle 45 degrees of twist. What exactly is twist and what part of the axle twist?
thanks,
mark

It is how far the shaft twisted before it broke. I don't think that is as useful as you may think. Once it twists a certain amount, it is doomed to failure at a later date.

Anyway, not knocking the 30 spline Long, but there are no inner axles that can stand the abuse the Longs can take, so to say they are stronger than a D60 is false in my mind.

to answer your ? the axle twists in the shaft between the splines on either end

thanks for the replies. I'd also have to agree with you, as much as I love my longs, it seems like a reach to say there stronger than a d60. Anyway, I was just reading on pirate and someone said they liked axles that twist more, so that sparked my question.

All of the above and a D60 turns sharper than a Toy axle. Gotta start looking for D60's!!
