hey everyone i am 17 and i love to 4wheel and iam building my own dual case crawler it is a 1985 toyota pick up and i have a question i have 37 in tiers and i have been told a lot of diff things ppl tell me to get 5.29 gear ratios but some people tell me just to stay stock with that and iam not quite sure what to do because one person says upgrade and another says i dont so if u can help i would much appreciate it thank you

There are a few things to consider, what gear ratio are your stock gears, gonna drive on the hiway or offroad only,v6 or 4 banger? in my opinion if your gonna run such a big tire regear! it will only help regain lost power.

I think the first thing you should do is get a keyboard with a period and a shift key on it.

You would think his high school would have some kind of class that teaches you things, like what a period is and how its used.

first off i wanna say thnx to the truck doc. for actually trying to help and for you other people that think i cant type well thanks for no help.... and just cuz i dont use periods when i type doesnt mean i dont know how to use them i just dont.. why would it matter anyways its a forum and not an essay....

The problem is this kind of crappy writing style DOES show up in essays. I'm a college professor, and I see it all the time. It's getting ridiculous. Seriously, I get all sorts of stupid acronyms in papers... LOL, ROTFL, stuff like that. Yes, this is just a forum, but practice makes perfect, as the saying goes.

Now, to answer your question, YES you should definitely regear with tires that large. But it would help to get some more info, like what engine you are running, what kind of wheeling you do, etc.

Whoever told you to leave your diffs stick with 37" tires should not be giving advice to anyone. I certeainly would not be asking any more from them.

or commas, or question marks, anyone else notice how much more the letter z is showing up in words...lol. ok, enought picking on the kid... get the 5.29 gears unless you did a v8 swap or something with lots more power. But spend a little money, get quality gears and while you have the diff apart you should at least toss a locker in the rear. Detroits are cheap, strong and don't misbehave too badly in a toy.

if you are driving this truck as a daily driver then there are things to consider. one is the gear ratio you are using with the dual case, stock or the 4.7s? stock tranny?

and given that you are using a dual transfercase, i would probably wait to see if you need to regear later, well until you decide what type of locker you want. thats what i did when i installed my ARBs.

and you live in orange county how fast do you need to accelerate to get to the next traffic light, or the constant traffic.

if you do decide you need some 5.29s i think bud built had some for pretty cheap.

ok soo it is a 22r with mild camand iam running a stock transmition with trd clutch and i have dual case but iam not too sure what the gears are in them i havent look at them in a while they have been sitting there waiting for me to put them together and iam gunna be running 37 like i said with a trail gear 4 inch lift. and i plan on doing some crawling. and it has to be streat legal for a while. and as far as lockers that brings up another question because all i have is enough for my gears at the momment and i dont know if i should put them in becase hopefully in the near future iam going to be puting some lockers in or if i should just hold off on putting them in till i get my lockers

The 22R is a good little motor, midly cam'd your looking at maybe 120horses. Running duals only solves the OffRoad Power Problem, and as it has to be street legal, Im positive it would be embarrasing to be the only one of your friends who has been stopped 4 going TO slow, so those factors dictate the need to regear!
There are endless options for Lockers. I recomend the Aussie Locker (offroadlockers.com) for its price and reliability.
Another Option is to lock and regear just the Rearend, youll regain your power for street driving and still be able to show off in 2wd until you A.Save for the front gears or B. Save for the Locker and front gears.
BUT DO NOT drive with your front hubs engage if you regear just the rear! Youll create EXTREMELY HARSH driveline bind. That is REALLY BAD!
Remember that Patience is one hell of a virtue!

BTW: I am 17, and I realize everyone has to type like that at some point in their lifetime but can you not do it in green? You are making my eyes hurt.

Thanks a lot i think the best thing was option a because that way i can at least have somthing to drive so that way i dont have to drive my moms sequia anymore. and sens were such a big help i ll try to stay away form the green haha :D thanks a lot again and thank you to everyone for your imput and iam gunna take it all into condsideration so i can decide what my next move is going to be. and if anyone else wants to tell me what they think i should do please feel free:hillbilly:

Only because you said to feel free to tell you what to do, spend the extra .03 milliseconds to use the extra part of the brain so that your posts come out in a sensibly understandable form. An easy way to help,... punctuation. Doesn't have to be perfect, but give us an idea when to stop staring at the screen.

... But yes do what everyone else said, regear to 5.29, and throw in a lunchbox or a spool. (The aussie lockers are pissah) Or if you feel the need to go way over the top like klf install a couple of toyota e-lockers.

Ok well thank you for you input. I will take it all into consideration especially the punctuation sens. It is such a big deal for everyone. And all i want to say is sorry not taking in to consideration on how my punctuation makes it harder for all of you to understand what iam saying. And sorry this post was all in caps my key is acting up and i cant take it off

Good, young padawan, good.

P.S. THANK YOU!

As for gears, we stock them all. I would recommend 5.29. All we deal in is differentials and have sold 1000's of gears, and regeared numerous trucks including several of my own. Feel free to call or email. We wont give you a hard time about your punctuation either:)
