Some time ago I saw a thread that listed the parts needed ( i.e. brass fitting, brass tee along with what size and thread pitch ) for the axle breather to extend them. Can someone post this info and maybe some photos of this. Where's the best place to vent them to? The front obviously into the to the engine compartment, but the rear? I would think NOT into the cab some the fumes would get ya.

Thanks, Greg

On my BJ42, and I think on most late model cruisers, the factory placed both breathers up on the firewall by the ID plate. The rear one has a long line along the frame.

Huh, I didnt see mine on the firewall? I just bought Marlin's breather extensions and planned on raising them higher? I will have to check into this?

I just popped the caps off of the breather and ran gas line up as high as I needed. Small radiatior clamp and a cheap fuel filter and your done. Some say this won't work but we have done all of the 40's on our club like this. Mine has been like this for 10 yrs. Cheap.

Later,

how about some pic's of how you did it.

Filter is to prevent bugs and dust from entering the line, and it's a fairly easy and inexpensive way to be able to do deep water crossings. My dumb ass got my truck stuck so the axles were completely under water and mud, and I had to leave it overnight. After 18 hours of sitting in water, the transmission, transfercase, and axles were completely water and mud free when I changed them later that evening. I can post up some pictures this weekend if you want.

Well, in retrospect, I think I'm full of s*** :D. Mine are there, but looking closer they don't looks as stock as I remember them, and I can't find anything in the EPC about such lines. In any case, see them below. A long vacuum line runs inside the frame rail to the rear axle, while the front line snakes through the motor mount (where it has a thick anti-rub sleeve) to the front axle.

Its odd, because I think this setup is functional and fairly clean... which would be totally out of character for the PO.

Did exactly the same on my 40 with the axles and tranny.:wrench:

Yeah, I'd like to see pics of that. :bounce:

Don't have a lot of photos but here is the rear. The line is fed into the frame and connected to the K&N filter under the hood. I don't have a photo of the front axle but can take one if you need to see it.

just to make sure, the k&n filter is the black bell shaped thing on the left with the wing nut holding it down and the lines running down (right ?) and do you have a part number because i haven't seen that one before. or i guess i can go to Google and see what i find.

thanks!

That would be yes to your first question. I went to the K&N website and could not find the housing. They may have discontinued it. I installed it at least 5 years ago.

thanks! ow well i guess i will think of something.
