Just got my 24 gal installed today. I'm moving out of state in 2 weeks and already have an out of state address.

First fill up went pretty well. It was like I was 16 again. A little awkward, a little clumsy, and it took me a few tries to get it in the right hole!

No click offs and 38.7 gallons of fuel to fill it up. Thanks for the service, @orangefj45 - good meeting you.

If you get click-offs, it’s usually either a hyper sensitive pump station sensor...or...you may need to just get accustomed to getting the nozzle to point directly into the more angled fill holes. It can be a little different feel.

After many fill ups i have found that the aux tank will not fill up one 1 click or the faster 2 click at the station. If I try it at some normal filling speed it just clicks off. There is something wrong with the fill design, it only fills slow. The main fills fine, but not the aux.

So what I have been doing is sticking the fuel cap in the handle, this then gives it a slow fill and it doesn't click-off.

Overall, the filler is not a great design. Both holes are smaller than the OEM which doesn’t allow as much air to escape, hence the pumps clicking off. I’ve just lived with filling at the medium speed as most pumps will click off at the higher speed.

I've found my completely stock filler on my 570 very sensitive to the individual pump. I can't really imagine it any worse.

This.

It’s mostly variable depending on pump sensitivity, Had mine for almost 2 years and this is the overwhelmingly consistent factor.

Ask Long Range America they are in Cali and there of lots of people in Cali with these tanks installed.

They are a sealed unit and so you still use the OEM vapor system.

For what it's worth, the problem is mainly with the vapor recovery system the Kaliforniastan pumps have (might be other States too, but I'm still a subject of King Newscum for a few more months). I've found by bringing the fill hose up over my shoulder and having the fill handle up at about 10:30-11:00 position, I can fill the main tank at about 1/4 speed. Slow and steady. We also have a home in NV, and I have no problems filling full speed there.

that may explain why I always have problems filling up rentals prior to return in cali. wife always tries to blame it on the wine!!! lol!!!

Can we please keep politics out of ih8mud, much appreciated

We don’t outlaw frustration on mud.

I honestly think it’s pretty understandable to pointedly gripe about hyper-restrictive tendencies against great products that California politics literally tries to squash. That’s a politically consistent tendency with direct relevance to this topic.

Yeah, we ran things out of Carmel-by-the Sea for decades great times, beautiful place, great folks... miss it...
Eventually enough is enough though...

I think this breather maybe the issue, as when I run the pump faster it will not just click off, but it will also spit back.

I ended up running the aux breather line into a "T" tap with the main filler breather, to maintain the evap. sealed system. Maybe a "Y" fitting would be better?
My main fills ok, not great but ok on slow fill. Fast fill it will not work same issue it spits back.

I'm wondering if there is a better way to run the breather tubes, and if that would correct the filling issues?

Like someone mentioned about it does seem to fill ok if you put the filler handle at 11:30.

Well-said.

Everything causes cancer and if you have a gas can that isn't red, or more than 3 rounds of anything other than lead-free ammunition in your possession, you are a dangerous felon.

For my Cali brethren out there... you guys are awesome. I'm sorry you have to deal with what you have to.

I can honestly say I haven't had these issues here in North Carolina with the LRAs. I install them, and go fill them up, and well... they fill up. There is a BP station that runs so fast, that no one can use the fastest click. It runs so fast it can click off a jerry can. But for all the other pumps, they just work.

I know for my time in Cali, the vapor pumps are definitely hard to work with if they don't get themselves a perfect seal. I know for me, on other trucks, I would use a pencil to slide up the nozzle and keep the safety switch depressed, so I could fill jerry cans and fuel cells better. I actually would not spill a drop going that, where I sometimes cause a spill when trying to push that pump design tight enough into a fill neck.

Don't know if that would help any, but thought I would mention it. I don't have an aux take of my own yet, but one day, that 40 gallon is mine.

Edit: the only other place I ever saw the Cali vapor pump nozzles was in El Paso when I lived there. One station had them, and after a year, they all went away and became the pumps that most of the other states have.

Like @Taco2Cruiser notes, I don’t think it’s an LRA problem so much as it’s a pump sensitivity problem.

Proof for doubters...

Here is a time lapse of me fullingup with zero shut-offs at costco in CA. Some pumps are less touchy.
Didn’t start video til 4 gallons, but in only 14 seconds you’ll seeit went all the way up to 25 without touching it (i had topped off the other tank with a gallon or so without a stop too, and thought of videoing next other tank.

So.....have not been able to locate this via search so thought I would toss it out in here. I have the 24 gallon aux LRA in my 2020. Everything was working absolutely perfect for the first 3500 miles. Today I got in the truck and the switch is inoperable. It does not display the aux fuel level and will not activate the aux tank. I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this issue before I start down the troubleshooting list.

Do you have the original pump or the upgraded pump? I believe the upgraded pump has a fuse and relay, the original I think only has a fuse. I had the original pump for 6000 miles with no problem and now have the upgraded pump for 1500 miles now with no problems so far. Not sure if that is much help, but I guess the first place to look would be the fuse and relay (if upgraded pump).
