Do you have the original pump or the upgraded pump? I believe the upgraded pump has a fuse and relay, the original I think only has a fuse. I had the original pump for 6000 miles with no problem and now have the upgraded pump for 1500 miles now with no problems so far. Not sure if that is much help, but I guess the first place to look would be the fuse and relay (if upgraded pump).
@RobW0 I have the original pump. I do have the upgraded setup though in my garage. I might just go ahead and have the upgraded pump setup installed and have the pump wired through the Switch Pro.

So.....have not been able to locate this via search so thought I would toss it out in here. I have the 24 gallon aux LRA in my 2020. Everything was working absolutely perfect for the first 3500 miles. Today I got in the truck and the switch is inoperable. It does not display the aux fuel level and will not activate the aux tank. I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this issue before I start down the troubleshooting list.

That sounds like a fuse or loose wires with the limited facts there, or the. Can you get to the back of the switch to make sure it is connected?

A quick question for those of you with a LRA tank installed, what is the amperage draw (or fuse size in amps) of the aux tank’s pump?

I forget .. but it was small amps and came with a inline fuse. Plue the wire was small guage 14 or 16. No Relay was required for the pump if that is why you are asking?

Some guys replace the pump with another one that does require a relay, and the pump is quieter and faster.

yep. Stock LRA pump uses an add-a-fuse with 10 or 15 amp

this comment piqued my interest. What other pump(s) are used?

have their been any reliability issues w this system? If so, has the included pump been an issue or the replacement ones? Or any other weak point that has been discovered over time?

lots of cash to plunk down, want to ensure this is as reliable as anything befitting of a land cruiser.

thanks!

I have some downtime and am mapping out a complete aux power system / wiring diagram on MS Excel. The LRA 40 gallon tank is on the list of future modifications. I’d like to build the pump’s circuit into the aux system for an easy plug-n-play install later on down the road. I nerd out on this stuff - it’s weird 😂

Nice. Just the info I needed. Thanks!

Being that the system does not have a relay, I’m assuming then that the LRA dash switch controls the activation of the pump. Do you know if the dash switch is a self-contained harness, or does it tap into any wires behind the dash (ignition hot circuits, etc.)?

It is a self contained system, just needs a power wire. Then it is just push the button to refill. Very Very simple. Beyond simple.

Now if you want you can have it "auto fill" but I have not figured out what the OEM Toyota voltages are to do that. I would considered this advanced as they give no instructions on how to do this. The OEM fuel sender has 3 wires, yellow white black. Theoretically you can tape into these at the cluster behind the dash console and get it to auto fil. That is as soon as it gets to 1/4 tank it would auto refill to 3/4 tank, like the military generators do. I just have not figured out the wires and settings to do this.

Reliability wise...my early LRA 200 install may have been the first here to swap for a faster pump & it’s been without issue.. It was a pump I located and ordered at the time and Yes,it did require a relay. Georg and crew installed it at Valley hybrids, so I can’t offer a step by step. It’s been 100% reliable.

If you are interested in the pump I used, I‘ll post a link.. Quite a bit faster, actually, which is nice.

I believe Slee may be switching out the included fill tubes (I used the supplied set) and possibly the pump as well. Not sure on the pump or which pump.

To me, the LRA is a fantastic mod. Worth every penny...and changes the way you travel in surprisingly helpful ways....whether on road or off.

PS to @Mineral
Here is the pump I used several years ago. It’s been fast & flawless:

You don't miss the woody woodpecker sound of the original pump? :)

Heh. No...but ai never heard Woody Woodpecker bc I never had the original. :)

Just in case anyone still questions whether the tanks hold the full amount specified.... or whether it always trips the handle shut-off... (it doesn’t unless the pump is too sensitive or at a bad angle)... See below. :)

I literally filled my 24 gallon today...unattended...til just one brief extra handle squeeze after it passed 24 gallons. Ended up with this at Costco:

These Long Range tanks are great !

I have the 40 gallon as I'm more overland than rock crawling. Plus I'm not a big fan of stopping for gas so I frequently use it.

Last week we were able to head out on the trails, do some camping and get back without refueling.

When the pump goes for a bit after hitting empty it sort of sounds like Woody Woodpecker. I don't mind, and like it, as I know from the sound it's actually empty.
With a quiet pump you're not 100% sure but with the original you know.

Thanks for the follow-up regarding the dash harness.

The autofill feature would be a practical mod as well.

Is this the result of a single transfer? On my 25G LRA, the transfer pump shuts off automatically way before all has been transferred. If I run it several times I might get it down to a 23G refill.

I’m wondering if the faster pump would do a better job getting the whole amount over before the auto off...

Mine has been good at full transfer—of course, assuming the main is near enough to empty. But the main only holds 24.6 though, and rarely actually has room to take the full 24 from the LrA...So that could be the reason. When you main says empty, it’s really got several gallons left...meaning not enough room for a full transfer anyway.

I also have a faster transfer pump on my LRA, so...?

We are contemplating the 40 gallon, we are overland and also tow as well. Any drawbacks you have with yours?
