Hey guys what speakers., amps ,subs upgrade are you using . Just got that trump check might as well upgrade the sound system lol

You should ask @KillerBox Pic Heavy Stereo Build 😂

My setup:
  • JL Audio HO110RG 10" sub (highly recommend because it has great output and the angled back so it tucks up nicely against the back of the middle row seats)
  • Alpine MRV-M500 500W x 1 amp to power the 10" sub
  • Alpine RUX-KNOB to control bass levels without searching through the settings of my headunit
  • Alpine MRV-F300 50W x 4 amp to run door speakers
  • Infinity Primus PR6500cs in the front doors & tweeters
  • Kicker DSC65 in the rear doors

What year is your cruiser? If it’s a 2003 and up do the tape deck swap with a single din for a clean fresh signal and optimal control. Then grab 6.5” midbass and 1” tweeters to replace your front doors. Run active and put each speaker on one channel of a 4 channel amp. Get a package of noico 80ml matting off Amazon for your front doors. Leave your rear doors unplugged. Lots of options for subs. How much space you willing to give up and how much bass do you like.

I've had a few systems in the 100. You could go through lots of details, but my overall advice is to prioritize speaker quality. Spend most your money on the front components. That really "makes" a good system. Of all the thousands I've spent on audio stuff over the years, by far the best investment was spending an extra couple hundred on "high end" components for the front stage.

A DSP is nice as well, if you have the budget for it, but that's icing on the cake. The front components ARE the cake.

My current setup in my 99, which I love, is:

Front Components - Morel Virtus 602
Rear Components - none
Amp/DSP - Audio Control D-4.800 (or something like that)
Subs - 2 10" Focal 27V2 (a single 10" would be plenty, but I scored a sweet deal on these on craigslist)
Sub Amp - Old JL Monoblock 500w
Sound deadened body (but not doors yet)

Thanks guys I did some research on speakers last night. What I'm thinking of going with right now is
The front Infinity references ref5020cx for a 100 bucks. Jbl stage 6004 560watt 4 channel amp. Back idk yet. But definitely replacing subs with 6.5 skunks and Idk what amp yet for back here and maybe mounting some 6x8 speakers somewhere. i want to keep the stock room(space) in the cruiser.

Ballin. That's a nice setup

Aw C'mon, we all love audio threads - the more the merrier I say!

Question: nearly every component speaker system on Crutchfield shows that the tweeter will need some type of modifications to fit. Any insight into the types of modifications that may be required and how to best understand which then make sense to buy? I've installed a few head units and done some simple speaker install years ago but might as well call me a newb. I'm thinking about doing an across the board upgrade on my 2001 LC and tackling it with my 16 year old son.

Make sure you've got a crossover somewhere in your signal chain or your speakers will sound like crap for the first few minutes. After that they probably won't sound like anything at all (tweeters, at least...).

I swapped in some inexpensive components for the front (JBL 6500c) about two weeks ago. The tweeters were slightly larger than stock. Some of the reinforcements in the tweeter sails just need to be cut back a bit with a dremel (maybe possible with a pair of diagonal cutters?). It's nothing you can see once everything is put back together so don't sweat it too much. My tweeters came with a threaded stud on the back, so I was able to reuse the stock mount. If you don't have that option, some decent double-sided tape should do you good.

Good sq on those focals, a little more juice would bring those things. How much you scoop em for?

You gonna keep factory source hu? Good budget choice on those References...solid performers.Your doors will fit the 6.5’s though. Look at the pioneer gm-d8704 amp, solid underrated output and small footprint for $120

I forget exactly, but I think I paid $500 for two 27v2, the jl 500w monoblock, a 4 ch jl AB class amp, focal 165k and focal 6.5 coax speakers along with a heap of nice wiring and cables. Oh and two bulk packs of dynamat. It was all new in box, but like 10 years old. Guy bought it for a build on a classic Thunderbird, immediately got shipped overseas for work and never got back to the project so it just all sat in his garage. He had no idea how to price new ( but old) audio stuff.

Probably one of my best craiglist finds, haha. It's the only reason I was comfortable ponying up the cash for the morels I ended up with. I paid for those speakers by selling the focal sets in that bundle and still had a lot of good stuff leftover.

I put my second one in the tailgate!! 4 channels so there are lots of wire to run.

Just picked up a Kenwood DDX5706S head unit along with a Kenwood CMOS-230 back up camera. Currently exploring camera install and mounting options. Trying to get better understanding of tapping into reverse wire and then how & where to mount camera.

For speakers and power, thinking of the doing all four doors with JL C2-650X co-ax speakers rather than fooling with components - in part for ease of install, in part because it's gonna sound great no matter what, and in part because there's this .

To power the speakers, I'm thinking about the JL JD400/4. Figured I can add a small 8" powered sub later if needed.

Nothing extravagant but seems like a very solid setup for my family and I to enjoy.

Jl gear is overpriced. Pioneer gmd 8704 amp puts out as clean and more power than that jl 400/4 and costs 120$. Also, your front doors have have tweeted pillars... utilize them, it’s better imaging. Get a Comp set, it will have a passive crossover box that will distribute frequencies and allow both speakers in that door to share an input on the amp. I’m terrible with installs and I did it.

Front and back dialed in for 130$
