I recently purchased an ‘04 lx470 with 45k miles. Flew 1100 miles away and drove it home. Everything ran great except for a blown sub. I read through the forums and purchased a Dayton for a replacement. Process seemed super easy.

I uninstalled the old sub and wired the new one. I did a test run and everything ran as it should. The outer shape of the new sub was different than the factory one so I trimmed it down to fit the enclosure. I hooked everything back up but now my headlights and dash lights flicker on and off.

I’ve disconnected it and reconnected it 5-10 times thinking my crimps were bad or the quick connects were loose. I still get the flickering and the car won’t start.

I can’t explain how much I am in need of your help.

It's been a while since I had a 2004, but try to pull the 10A radio fuse and see if that isolates the problem and allows the engine to start. Beyond that, without knowing more about what you did, I can't offer any advice.

Check the Resources section. I've uploaded both the service manual and EWD for you.

I tried your remedy. Pulled the fuse, and jumped the battery and it started right up.

Weird thing is the radio and new sub both worked. The only thing I noticed was the antenna only extended about five inches upon start up. I did not function check anything else, so I’m not sure if it was just a dead battery from power drain or if the radio fuse had something to do with it.

I’m going to take it to a car audio place later today to make sure everything is working as it should, and I’ll update. Thanks again.

The Lexus antenna has a memory; it remembers where you stopped it the last time it was used.

I just read that and found the fix. Hoping the dead battery was just a power draw and a one time deal, because everything sounds and runs fine at this point.

You're not going to be happy with that dayton. It will sound like crap in short order. I did this exact same thing. Hope you kept the old one. Just refoam it. It will sound a 100 times better than the dayton.

Well the factory sub had zero foam left and the Dayton was only $29. I’ve been riding around listening to a clapped out sub, so anything sounds good at this point. I do still have the factory sub, so if this one craps out, I’ll do the refoam.

x2 on refoaming. We used to have a shop in Charlotte that did this, and they were always busy, but they've long since closed. I miss them.
