I was pulling samples of ATF and engine oil, and I may have gotten 1/2 teaspoon or so of Mobil synthetic ATF in my engine oil. :whoops:

It's fresh Mobil 1 syn 5W-30 EP. I'd like to keep in the crankcase until the next oil change in the spring.

What do you guy's think, is this a problem?

short of there being a bizarre chemical reaction, it hardly seems worrying about.

If you want to sleep better, put a bit of oil in a container, add the equivalent percentage of ATF and check to see if the thing congeals, separates or (yea) explodes... :)

Keep in mind that in the old days some folks would put a bunch of ATF in their engines to clean up the old crud. Not that I know that this is OK to do, but at least the stories are not about all those engines exploding either...

You've certainly got more than a teaspoon of gasoline in your oil, I woudn't worry at all.

I have substituted a quart of ATF in older gunked engines to get it cleaned up, no issues. Half a teaspoon is nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys.

I'd heard somewhere ATF was being used to clean engine-slug out, didn't know if that was urban legend or not.

I do believe your right; I had quite a bit of gas in the oil, as the level came up a bit and it smelt like it before my last change.

I didn't sleep well last night, but I'll sleep better tonight thanks to you guys. I'll save and keep an eye on the container of contaminate oil it came from, just to see if anything weird happens to the mix.
