I have a '74 FJ-40 that originally came with the F1.5 motor (transition motor).

It also has a 4 speed gearbox.

I am looking for a speedo-cable. The one I removed (it was siezed) seems to take a square drive at the transmission end, that doesn't extend past the sheet metal cover that mates to the transmission drive (and plastic gear).

The cables I have seen (and bought) have a long round shaft (with a nib / nub) that protrudes beyond the sheet metal cup on the transmission end. This doesn't look like it will mate with my transmission.

The cable is '74" Long.

Anyone have a link, part number, or description?

is it square on both ends of the rotating assembly?
square drive is for the speedometer end
transfer end has a knub or tab on it as you described above

It was square on both ends...

Maybe I better pull the gear thing out (again) and see if I have a broken chunk of speedo cable in it.

It would be great if I actually got the right cable!

Guess what I found inside the "gear thingy"?

The sheared off tip of my speedometer cable! That's why the cable had an uneven, square cable like thing that didn't protrude beyond the sheet metal cup.

Thanks for the tip, 3-P!

Here's the Part Number for a great-fitting replacement for a '74... It just happens to be 74" long, too!

I found it on eBay.
