Hi all, New guy here. I have a new to me 1968 FJ40 from South America. I didn't realize it was from SA until after I bought it but it is what it is. In any case among other things the speedometer isn't working. I replaced the cable since the old one was beat up and it seemed like a good first step. Installed the new one and did the drill test from and it worked. Installed it and nothing. I have the one listed as A here on the top.

I looked at the driven gear and it looked ok just old and dried out. I replaced that with no improvement in function. I can see the drive gear inside and it looks fine to my eyes. Any thoughts out there? It almost looks like if the driven gear were bigger (larger OD) it would work. Due to the nature of the SA rig I have no idea if my case is original 68' or something else. It is still a 3 speed. Any help would be appreciated.

If you remove the cable from the speedo end, you can find if its engaged at the gearbox - is the inner cable free to turn?
