Someone more knowledgeable may chime in, but here is my understanding:
First the Toyota nomenclature:
Drive Gear: Refers to the metal gear on the rear output shaft inside the speedometer housing on the back of the transfer case.
Example of Speedometer Drive Gear:
The Driven Gear: Refers to the white nylon gear that is on a shaft that is held in place by the Sleeve Sub Assembly Speedometer Shaft PN#33404-39016 (03.1969 - 11.1978)
Here is an example of the Driven Gear:
The Driven Gear and the Drive Gear must match. As far as I can tell there are two Drive Gears for our application
33481-60020 09.1971 - 01.1979 GEAR, SPEEDOMETER DRIVE (FOR TRANSFER)BJ40,FJ40,55; N=6,TAKING 6X18
OR
33481-60030 03.1969 - 03.1974 GEAR, SPEEDOMETER DRIVE (FOR TRANSFER) FJ40,55; N=6,TAKING 6X16,6X17,6X15
Note that the Drive Gear for the 18 tooth Driven Gear 33481-60020 ONLY ACCEPTS AN 18 TOOTH DRIVEN GEAR and it has a smaller diameter than does the 33481-60030. However, the 18 tooth Driven Gear is larger in diameter than is the 17 tooth Driven gear.

Side-by-Side Comparison (The 17 is on top)
