Hey Guys,

I've been looking for a winch bumper for my '78 Fj40 and found a few good threads on this site regarding winch bumpers from ARB, MAF, and CCOT. Although I can appreciate the protection and quality of the ARB Bullbar, I opted to order a 4+ bullbar from MAF since my rig is mainly being used as a rockcrawler. I thought the following response and photos from Christopher Wood, ARB Western Sales Manager, would be useful to other Mudders who are considering the ARB bumper. ARB seems to have great customer service and is very responsive to customer inquiries.

"Thanks for the inquiry.

Coming from a rock crawling background, I would say that our bumper is not ideally suited for it… unless the rocks are not going to exceed about 2-feet in diameter… roughly speaking. Our bumper is designed with a focus on frontal protection where absolute approach angle and ground clearance are not the primary goal."

All the best,
Christopher Wood

I will second the "bad ass" response.

At first impression the ARB is a sweet looking bumper. Having said that, I would not put one on my FJ40 for a couple of reasons. I feel it is way too wide, the gauge of the metal is too thin, it does not offer the brush protection I want and it limits what you can use in the way of winches. As much as I am a fan of ARB products, I came to the conclusion that to get what I wanted meant to build it.

HKforte........I like that handle for some reason :D

sweet 40 I must say

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes, that fine looking cruiser is not mine. Those photos were sent to me by ARB. I will post pictures of my cruiser as soon as I get it back from my mechanic. (It's currently getting smogged, oil pan swapped, and steering slack repaired.)

doh......your right........but I still like his name :)

According to his post -- those 40 photos were from ARB. That is an ARB bumper, right?

Woody, whats up buddy. I met you at the 4-wheel truck fest in San Mateo, I've known Gary for a long time, sometimes I hang out at his shop and drool over all the nice rides:) That particular time I was with my buddy Jay (Snook), he hangs out in the 100 section. He was using my 40 for the twilight Zone piece he was making for his Death Valley DVD.

I think the new ARB bumper looks like crap!(jeepy) but I guess its politically correct for the times:confused:
