Once the switch is out, assuming you have to go that route, ohm it out before tearing apart. I believe you should read a short between power pin and low speed pin with switch in low position and same for high speed. This means power at the...
Before pulling the switch check at the fan housing where the low speed resistor is located ( the Frankenstein looking coil thet is about 1/2"x3" long). There should be a second wire, high speed, and a bullit connector. Check for power at this...
What year? Model? My 68 had this problem and it was all in the cable link between the two pivots. Soaked it for a day in WD40 and havn't had a problem in 18 years!
Running rich makes carbon monoxide which is colorless and odorless.
Misfiring makes black smoke and stinks of gasoline. It is possible to run so rich that it misfires, but this is very unusual and you would notice something like gasoline...
How do you know it is runnng rich? It is hard to know without a wide band oxygen sensor. You can't smell it. You can smell hydrocarbons from misfiring due to lean mixture.
If the idle mix screw has no effect and you can't stall it by turning...
30-0-30 seems about right in a FJ40. I never saw my meter pegged in either direction, but it would deflect about 20-25 amps. You know it is working because you can see the needle flicker when the turn signals are on.
One more consideration:
With a 130 or 200 amp full scale meter, you may never notice when your alternator stops working because the amount of current that the cruiser uses may only be 10 to 15 amps, which would be 10% of the fuel scale...
All coil/needle/spring meters sense power in watts (volts times amps). Since the voltage is relatively constant in an automobile, the meter can be calibrated to read the approximate current flow in amps.
For a charging system it is useful to...
DO NOT USE a Blade type fuse and you will not find out ,
contact the link above @Coolerman @ Global Software
the blades fuses are not a reliable fusible link approach ....
I had also had to do a little sheet metal trimming years ago when I installed the extended shock towers because of the sweep of the 13” travel shocks.
Moving the axle slightly forward also remedied static angle of the shocks, something I had...
Another month, lots of adventure.
I mentioned in tech that I spent a couple of weeks going through my lwb45 to make sure it was ready to take me out and back from Death Valley. With less than a week to go, I discovered one of my front spring...
My grandson did something that annoyed mommy and got banished to the playpen. Older sister exercised her prerogative and said she wanted to be in there too, even though it’s obvious she’s big enough to get in and out by herself!😛
