Thanks to Texican Im ARBd and dangerous F/R in my 94 Best Color evar 80.....Unfortunetly we did not get to the compressor and switches. Too many Shiner Bock...

I need to mount the switches and Air Compressor. I found a suitable location for the air compressor and now i am looking for suitable locations for the 3 switches provided with the wiring harness;

Where did you mount your switches?

Where did you mount your air compressor....?

Pics please...

Thanks

Attached is a picture of my dash. The ARB switches are by the rear heater switch. There is a small green switch under the radio that turns the compressors on. With this setup the compressors can maintain air and the lockers engage as soon as the switches are pressed. I did not do it, but someone made the cutout for the switches large enough that they can both be removed forward then individully rotated and removed through the cutout/hole in the dash without disconnecting the spade terminals/wiring. My compressors are thrown up in the engine compartment near the firewall on the passenger side.

Good Luck,

Mike

I used the OEM locker switch and put it in the stock location on the left of the steering column. I like the factory look. Used a toggle switch that fit the single cutout next to the locker switch for the ARB air system. No pics. Too cold out.

How hard as it to use the factory switch? Can you use the ARB harness or did you fashion your own?

Thanks

I moved the rheostat for the dash lights down to the unused plug next to the fuse cover and put the locker switches next to each other, see pic......

I put the compressor switch below the heater controls (sry no pic)

The compressor is in the engine compartment using the Slee mount...

(btw an old pic and yes, the brake fluid needed flushing :flipoff2:)

Did you extend the harness?

Nice clean install! This looks like the way to go. That compressor is in there tight! I looked at the Slee mount but decided to use the space on the passenger side inner fender.... D-Side just looked way to crowded already.

Yes, I did need to extend the harness for the comp switch.

My pass side is full because I needed to relocated the washer bottle for my Aux battery.

I like the Slee mount for the small ARB (plenty for me it only runs the lockers) the large ARB would be a real pain to fit in.

I used the ARB harness. I soldered some pigtails with insulated spade connectors to the OEM switch and simply plugged in the ARB connectors.

Sounds like a great plan. Any idea on a PN for that switch. In the meantime i will do a search

*bump*

Good afternoon mud :flipoff2:

I'm planning my rear to 4:88 and ARB locker job. I received all my new axle components from @cruiseroutfit very nice koyo kit and Fuji spindles.

I plan to tear the axles down and I'll be bringing my third members to Dan Taylor at Taylor axle Works in placerville.

Is everyone still happy with their ARB setup? I've been through a bunch of threads here on mud and I can't decide if I should go to the trouble of wiring up to the factory switch or just stick with the standard ARB locker switches.

What are your thoughts? Are you happy with your setup and if you kept your air be locker rocker switches where did you locate them I'm looking for ideas.

Thanks

The arb switches will allow you to lock the front independently from the rear (if you make your own harness/bypass their harness). Love my air lockers.

That is a thing of beauty, rocker switch galore I love it. Is this something you picked up or did you make it?

Thanks for the heads up I started researching mud posts and unless the rear is locked I can't use the front rare instance I would need the front on its own I assume however I suppose that would be a nice option if needed.

Made it myself. Check it out here: Builds - The Trail Snail - FZJ80 Expo Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/the-trail-snail-fzj80-expo-build.826962/post-10521653

Having 100% control over the front locker is a good thing, I've had my rear locker blow an airline inside the diff in the middle of a 7 day overlanding trip. It would've really sucked donkey dick to need to have the rear locker "on" to use my front locker. Not even sure if that would've worked since all the air pressure was going out the breather of the rear axle.

Sweet, another build thread to read, love it! Wish I would have started a thread when I started this 80 project 2 years ago.

I'll check it out, thanks for the info and input. Makes a lot of sense with what you were saying about blowing your locker to have control over them independently.

Thanks :flipoff2:
