Hey folks, we recently took delivery of 50 ARB Air Lockers for the 10.5" Tundra Axle part # RD146. ARB was nice enough to design the new RD146 so it is compatable with not only the stock 1.457" 36 spline axle shafts, but due to the bore, it will also accommodate 35 spline 1.5" and 37 spline 1.60" axle shafts. In order to do this, the side gears need to be swapped for the RD 115 or RD166/167 units. This begins to open up using the 10.5 diff and axle for things other than the Tundra.

I think it could be in some cases. Tundra center on D60 knuckles......its stronger than a 9.5 on a D60...........also could make axles for an 80

The 10.5 housing should prove useful as well. Wheel mount center is 72". The axle tubes measure 3.40" at their narrowest point and the metal used is about .20" thick. A real HD axle with drop out center. I'd like to compare weights with a 60 and 14 bolts.

what gear ratio's do those come from the factory in.....and are there aftermarket gear sets available? and do come with disc brakes from the factory?

That seems like a pretty thin housing at less than 1/4" thick for something that'll be needing 1.5"+ shafts.

I'd imagine the bolt pattern could be re-drilled to a 5x5.5" pretty easily though.

Semi float.

Also, I assuming (we all know where that gets us) the 10.5 housing has .20" walls. That measurement comes from a 9.5 Tundra housing. With some gussets, a stronger yet lighter housing may be had.

So for kicks lets look at cost of a 4.10 with ARB and then custom shafts cause I am gonna offset it for the 40. What would the axle housing with brakes, the ARB, the gears and some custom axles cost ??????????

I am guessing 500 to 800 for the shafts at the lowest but I do not know what the other stuff prices at.

Tundra axle $1000
ARB RD146 $1094
Side gear package $400 (if going larger than 1.457 36 spline)
Axle shafts $800

What else do we need?

A money tree.... :hmm:

Would make for a nice axle though

37 spline 1.6" is very close to 1.62" 16 spline Rockwell axles.

Is it close enough? Can ARB give us Rockwell side gears in a 10.5 3rd?

I wish Diamond would start making housings for these diffs, talk about a nice axle

Has anyone built one of these yet? I have a 10.5” tundra axle. Trying to find guidance on what works and what doesnt. At 72” wide, its a bit too wide for my use, thinking of narrowing to 66-67” wms. Who has played with one of these?
