Did you check trdparts4u.com first? I paid $740 for one through them a couple months ago. Drove down to ARB in Renton and picked it up. I avoid 4WP like the Plague.

Checked on that but there price was $790 plus tax if I picked it up in Renton or $790 plus shipping costs of $84. I'm not a 4 Wheel Parts supporter but sometimes if the price is right I go there.

I just got off the phone with 4 Wheel Parts and bought one for $767 plus tax ($832 total) and will pick it up at the store in Seattle. Still trying to decide whether to use the ARB rear bumper or the Kaymar, and at almost $500 more for the ARB with swing away spare mount I think the Kaymar is winning hands down. Besides, I like what I see in 80t0ylc's rig and he can't be wrong.;):D

The ARB rear bumper is HUGE, and HEAVY and kinda UGLY. Well, the last part is subjective, but if you search there was a thread with several pictures on a members rig (from Australia). He reiterated that it is pretty large and decreased the departure angle noticeably as well as being heavy. I don't think I would ever buy one.

Found the thread: ARB Rear Bumper Thread, specifically post #22-24

After seeing those pics of the ARB rear bumper I know now what bumper I won't be getting. So far I still like the Kaymar. Whatever it is, it must have the ability to tow with. Departure angle means very little for me as most my driving is highway and old logging roads to fishing spots. Worst I'll see is muddy roads and swampy areas.

Not a fan of the Kaymar rear at all. And one of the guys in my local club really hates his for many reasons. I really like my IPOR.

(Not to hijack thread, but)

Interesting. As a Kaymar owner I'm curious. Why the "negative vibes"? Maybe we can both learn something.

better than the rest

I am going to see my fabricator on Monday. I will be designing a rear bumper with the best aspects from all of the competitors. It wall also have a swing out for a tire and for jerry cans. Mounts for rear lights, antenna, etc.

Let me know if anyone is interested as I have to build the jig. I am looking to keep sale price between $1500-$1800

Sliders with flare out toward rear
sales price $450-600 set

Skid plates 1/4 inch , better coverage than competetitors
$450 set

Interior carriers
$200 each

thanks,

Ray

As a prospective buyer, I would be intrested as well in knowing the "negative vibes" of the Kaymar. Also in something new being developed in that price range.

I took delivery of my ARB from 4 Wheel Parts on Saturday. When I got it home, I noticed there were large holes in the bottom of the box and upon further inspection, there were some minor gouges in the powder coat. After installing the bumper, I took the truck to the store and they ended up giving me a $100 cash rebate. I was pleased.

So your saying that you purposely installed the bumper first in hopes of getting some retribution for the merchant?

I really had no choice as I needed the bumper for a trip next week and couldn't wait for another one to be sent. The store offered to get a different bumper for me even after I returned from the trip. They also offered to have the bumper Line Xed at no cost to me but I just preferred to have the cash given the three options.

Bump.

Joey (nlxtacy) can you give some negative feedback to the Kaymar so Sparky97lx can get an idea of any drawbacks? Thanks!

I'm not Joey (lxnancy) and don't own one, but my observations on the Kaymar:

They are relativity weak, the ends bend/flex relatively easy with rock contact, have seen them make quarter contact including hard enough to cause body dents. They aren't the highest clearance, so contact happens easier, more often.

I live in a salt free area, but IIRC there have been reports of rust issues in more rust prone areas, search may find them?

I picked mine up at 4 Wheel Parts today and it came well wrapped and padded in a shrink wrap that protected it very nicely. No damage present and all the paint looked good. Looks like it will do well for protecting the front end too.

Interesting comments about the Kaymar. Rust or rock issues don't worry me. Swing away spare mount and trailer towing are important though. I might have to find someone that has one mounted and look at it up close to decide for myself.

You're talking for rock crawling use, right? My experiences are different, but I don't have lockers or sliders so I stay away from that. I agree with you on the clearance - slightly less than stock. But normal drags and ground/rock contact seem acceptable from a expedition standpoint.

I've had some exposure to salt, but not like rigs in the upper mid-west & north east and I've not had any rust issues. The closest thing to that, that's been irritating is the cut outs for the lamp fixtures in the bumper are exposed to debris thrown up by the rear tires. That can be fixed with some shielding - I've done it, and it's documented in another thread, in post# 11

I've installed a half dozen or so of the ARB rear bumpers. They are big, they don't provide the clearance that some do, but I for one really like the look. They are extremely well built, phenomenally engineered. I've installed bumpers from most of the common LC manufactures, while they are all stellar in their own way, the ARB surely has its niche as well. It is not a rock-crawling bumper, it however a killer long term unit, easy to maintain and adjustable for the future. Swings and racks are all modular. Add them now, add them later, move them later, etc. If anyone would like some pics, let me know, I've got a handful of them from installs here in the shop.

We just did a paint matched ARB rear on a 100 Series, customer couldn't be happier and I'm really digging it too

PS, I should say if this customer would have had his OEM mudflaps the ARB is designed to integrate cleanly with them. I couldn't find an 80 Series pic with the flaps but here is a 100, you get the idea

I looked around and the prices for the bumpers have gone up a bunch since a year ago when I did mine.

4Wheelparts has 10% off at free shipping right now.

$675 to my door for non winch. I'm going to wait and see if they do a 20% off Christmas sale. That would be $600 shipped, pretty damn good.

Anyone have any feed back on Oconee Off-Road?

I ordered my arb 8/2/10 from them, they said none in stock which i figured. Said wait 2-3 weeks and we will have it. Then I asked again at the 2 week mark. Still no bumper. Another email later they said at the LATEST it would be the 10th of sep. Now its the 13th and still no bumper. Emailed them again and got this: The bumper is in Louisiana. They do not have it on inventory yet. As soon as they do it will ship and I will have tracking for you.

So they will have had my money for 2 months for a item that should have came in around the 16th of august.
ugh.
