I guess he wasn't trading it for local parts after all. Figured he didn't like my offer. I didn't think his number being so close to retail new was realistic, but maybe I was wrong....

He was telling you the truth. I happened on the CL ad. Don't nornally use FJ40 just Land Cruiser and landcruiser in my search. But every once in a while I do search FJ40. I emailed the guy and said I had parts. He emailed back saying someone else in Texas was ahead of me. I put two together and figured it was you. Told him I didn't want to step on anyone toes and even offered ideas on shipping to Texas. He wrote back to say he would let me know what you decided. Have not connected him since. As for posting a link to the ad on here it wasn't me.

Oh no problems at all mate. Didn't mean to sound negative just thought it was funny that he said all of a sudden he was being contacted by a bunch of folks and then I see the CL ad posted on here. I have been looking for one of those bumpers or at least a similar style but I'm not certain I want to dish out 650 bucks not including the shipping. I'm still waiting to hear what his grandpa says about my offer.

You wouldn't happen to have one stashed away would you? I know you have the Mecca of LCs

Well the guy just got back with me and the lowest his grandpa is willing to go is $600. Not including the shipping cost so I'm passing.

I shot him an offer and he came back saying he was sorry but was going to trade for parts. I figured he just didn't like my offer and was trying to be nice about it. I thanked him and didn't pursue it any further. Worked out better in the end as it turns out. Good luck to you and Sully and I hope one of you guys ends up with it.

Just saw this after I posted. Again, not sure what they went for new but it still seems steep for a used one. No wonder he was insulted with my offer not wanting to go below $600. Shipping to Houston would have run $118 via UPS.

Yea he was going to charge me $118 to San Antonio. Oh well guess I'll keep looking for one in a better price range even if it us a knock off one.

I wasn't upset. I just wanted to say the guy wasn't lying about someone local. I haven't been in contact with him since March 2nd and figured he sold it. Now that it's been post on mud I'm sure he is overwhelmed with offers. I did just pick another bullbar off CL for $85. Not sure if it was made by ARB but it came off a Australian troopie. Thread on it here. https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/568518-bullbar.html This other one would be nice if I could just trade parts for it. I used up my "major purchase" cruisers funds for the next couple of years with the 1070 FJ40 I bought last year.

Would you be interested in selling that one you have? I really like it. If you are I would definitely be would like to buy it. The one on CL is still for sale and the guy is wanting parts I think he needs a hood and two fenders for a 77 fj40.

Having pickup up one a couple of weeks ago I was actually surprised shipping wouldn't be more. These are large and heavy.

Thanks that's the one we are talking about

Daniel, there's an outfit near New Braunfels that makes a clone of that old style ARB bull bar. It isn't mass produced, only individual custom orders. The fabricator's name is Jayce. IIRC the name of his shop is Jinesco. I talked to them a couple of years ago and they quoted me $500. Here's a pic of their bumper, partially finished. I can't find a photo of the final product, but you get the idea. Ask Grant about them.

Lee,

I spoke to Grant about that gentleman's arb style bumpers. If I remember, Grant told me he thought the price was near a grand for Jayce's bull bar. Grant said he will cut a discount on a group buy but it's still around 6 to 700 a piece.

They definitely appear to be very heavy and they just look mean. I thought shipping was a good price as well but I'm not willing to pay $600 for something that appears to have surface rust etc.

I believe someone posted in the thread I linked of one like that. The only difference I can see is the ARB has another vertical piece in the center. The thread also brought up the idea that this may or may not be a ARB original design. Someone else may have made them first. ARB imported and sold them new here so it is assumed ARB designed the bullbar.

It's a nice set up but it doesn't appear to have the winch mounting plate that I need for one of the 8274s I am rebuilding right now once it is finished.

Holy Batman. A grand, as in $1K? I went to his shop in mid 2009 and was quoted $500 including powdercoating. Damn inflation.

That center piece was intentionally omitted by the Texas fabricator in order to avoid any allegation that he'd duplicated a copyrighted design. I think there are a couple of other subtle differences as well, but don't remember what they were.

I was but a other mud member posted the cl ad in the for sale section and I think the guy has been overwhelmed. He made a comment that he was getting alot of calls and then I saw the cl ad posted on here and that's why the guy was being contacted all of a sudden.

My bad Dan. I didn't realize that you were actively working that one. The internet sure makes the world a lot smaller.

Want me to edit my post or has the damage been done?

Alex,

No problemo man! I'm gonna pass. The gent Will only go down to $600 not including shipping unless you have parts to trade. Thank you though!

The Internet does make it a small world haha

Lee,

Where is his shop? I'm positive that is what Grant told me regarding the prices. I should probably try to get ahold of Him and see what his prices are or maybe living in the past will sell me that sweet one he has that has the winch mounting plate already on it : ). Hah

The funny thing is, I posted it here because I knew I'd seen a wanted ad for one. I should have checked the classifieds and emailed you the link.

Have you PM'd lcwizard? That's Dave Gore from 4plus. He'll make you a bumper. I got a 4plus bull bar from him for $315 plus about $85 to ship it to Boston.
