Just a follow up and rant.

My bought new ICOM 208H is 15-months old. Lately I've been experiencing an issue with the main mic switch. It sometimes allows transmissions and sometimes doesn't. Really jamming your finger into the switch seems to help but not totally.

Anyway I contacted ICOM today about it. Their response: "It comes with a 12-month warranty. And if I want to send it in for repair they charge $42 estimate fee plus $84.00 per hour labor + parts to fix it".

Maybe time to move to that Yaesu 8800R I've been wishing for...

Just an FYI about ICOM customer service.
Have you checked to see if there are any after market mic's made for the 208H?

Come over to the dark side

Fix the PTT problem in the Icom HM 133 mic - QRZ Forums

Cory,

I stopped by our local electronics specialty store and upon their recommendation bought a can of D5 electronic parts cleaner, lube and anti-oxidizer. Took 15-minutes to disassemble/lube/reassemble and I just tested it and this seems to have provided remedy.

Thanks again!!!

Worked for me, too. I used electric motor cleaner I had on hand....

The same problem recently happened to the mic button on my 3yo 208H. But I decided the best option was to replace the button. OEM replacements are available from Mouser Electronics, p/n 688-SKHHLP, $0.30 each. You'll need a low wattage pencil-style soldering iron and good eyesight to do this. I bought a few extra switches, so if someone wants to go this route let me know and I'll send you a switch.
