expecting a cold winter down here in Florida. Want a cheap remote starter...thinking about the Bulldog. Also, will I need a bypass module? I'm thinking no because our keys don't have some sort of chip in them, but wtf do I know? :flipoff2:

Cold in Florida?

IMO, idling your cruiser for a long time while it warms up is not too good for the engine.

Perhaps an alternative would be a water heater like an eberspacher these can be set by timer or remote and have the advantage of preheating your engine and so helping to prevent premature wear.

Hoser, are you kidding? I have always heard that the best thing for your engine is to let it warm up at idle, slowly. This will allow the oil to get flowing throughout the motor. Cranking it up and taking off adds stress to moving parts that might not have been lubricated.

I test drove a cruiser with the bulldog remote start-up. IT was sweet. No problems at all. And it was very cold out when i test drove it. THe dealer was getting the keys inside, pushed the button and then we talked a little, drank a cup of coffee as the cruiser warmed up, then we got in and started driving. The truck was already warm. I thought it was a VERY nice option. Just leave the heat on when you shut the truck off, so when you hit the remote start, it will warm.

Again, just my opinion--but ever notice how long it takes to warm the car while it is idling? Engines are designed to run optimally at a certain temperature. When cold (and not within optimal temp range), the tolerances between the metal engine components are off--causing faster wear. The combustion chamber is colder and you get incomplete fuel combustion leading to carbon build-up.

I believe the best way to warm a vehicle is start it, wait 15-30 seconds for the oil pressure to build up. Put the auto tranny into gear and then wait another 15 seconds for the fluid to circulate. Then drive NICE and EASY until your oil temperature gets up to operating temperature. Most vehicles only have a water temperature gauge though and so I would give it a few minutes after the water temp is up.

Note, when you drive it, the engine takes less than half the time to warm up. Not to mention your catalytic converter works sooner (if you care anything about the environment) and you get way better gas mileage. Idling gets you zero MPG.

yea i got one in my dodge ram, its sweet when its hot in the summer i let it run with the ac on and in the winter let the heat blast. had no problems. chicks dig it too.

Cam, did you have the system installed? IF so, how much $?

Do remote starters require a bypass module on our 80's

Maybe I can get a hot chick to date me for my remote starter.

I wouldn't count on it. :flipoff2: ...................then again, you do drive an 80, and the chicks dig the 80. ;)

i did it myself, you can do it if you are somewhat electrially knowledged, it took me a while cuz i didnt really know what i was doing, my neighbor did help and i got a follow along video with it so i would do it myself rather than pay someone. if it was installed i think around 40 bucks

You talkin' $40 for the install, or $40 for the unit and install it yourself?

Do you have to bypass the factory remote/alarm or do you use both in tandem. I think I could get 7 or 8 BJ's from my wife for putting one of these things in. Thanks
