They're kind of out there begging to be taken. I thought of maybe threading some steel cable through the vents and then around the frame and then crimping off. Maybe welding on a steel cable to the cat and weld the other end somewhere to the frame.

Just leaving this here to see if there are some better ideas that what I have come up with before I proceed.

I would spot weld all the bolts and nuts in place. If you needed to remove them you could grind them off. But if a would be thief saw that he would need to take extra effort he might move on.

Actually, I have two that I'd love to get rid of. If you want them I'm tempted to mail them to you, postage paid.

But the :princess: would become unhappy, reducing the odds that I'd get a set of Metal Tech sliders to protect my catalytic converters. If they're going to cut through the exhaust pipe to steal them, I think they'd be able to cut a cable or two while they're at it.

they usually use a sawz-all when stealing them, so there really isn't much you can do. the best advice i have is to avoid parking in places where thiefs are common.

Easy, get Metal Tech rocker sliders. Kind of a bitch to get to with those on. ;-)

Have you ever tried to cut steel cable with a sawz-all or a hack saw when the cable is all loose? It's just going to flop around and go nowhere.

I like the idea of the sliders though, seems like those protectors kind of tuck everything away. It would be $1000 to replace the cats so might as well spend a $1000 on sliders in the first place.

Just like safes are rated in the amount of hours that it will take a thief to break in, I understand that nothing can be 100%. I just want to make the dumbass walking around the mall parking lot with a sawz-all look at mine and move on to the quad cab Dodge next to me instead.

Is this still an issue? At least in CA this type of theft has pretty much stopped once the new CAT law/ordinance/rule/whatever was put into place at the recycling plants. They had to get ID or proof or something goofy that made CATs no longer a viable option for their next tweaker fix.

That being said we did have a rash of them along with drilled out gas tanks when the prices where over $4/Gallon. But that all just died out. More money is stealing copper wires out of buildings right now :p

And the tack welding the bolt/nut wont help. jlg32281 is right, one minute and one sawzall in the mall parking lot had my friends Taco getting a $2100 replacement.

i agree that a set of sliders will help, but mostly because they hide them. a sawz-all will make pretty quick work of sliders. i also doubt a cable will do much either. i've cut through cables, you just have to pull it tight or push it against something. when you're not worried about cutting what you have a cable pressed against, cuts pretty easy. yes it's hard to cut a free swinging cable, but thieves couldn't care less about messing something else up while taking the cats. i'm not saying there aren't thing you can do to deter thieves, but if they want them, they will get them.

Hanna sliders.

Motion sensor under your vehicle tied into car alarm ?
Mount a small flood light under there as well somewhere, and when they get under, BAM !

TONS OF LIGHT AND TONS OF NOISE. They will get the F out pretty damn fast.

Yeah, that cat (the furry kind) is going to run like hell. :)

Someone's already come up with the steel cable idea: The Catlock® | Catalytic Converter Anti-theft Device

My buddy ended up putting these on his Sequoia after they got snagged down in San Jose. $100-$120 per cat depending on version.

Locks (and sliders) are made for honest people - if they want it, they'll get it.

Two options....:D:D:D:D:D:D Otherwise go with the Cat Lock.

Put a mirror behind the cats so that he can see your S&W model 29 pointed at the back of his head.

Im with Dan on this one. I dont think you can get the cats out even if they are cut off with Hanna sliders in place
You are correct I had to remove my PS Hanna slider to replace my cats and heat shields, it was a bitch!

cut mine off and left them on the front porch, still out there 3 months later:cool:

That is funny to me, not people gettin ripped off but some a****** sawing thru a car muffler at 2am for a stone rofl.I guess they use a hand saw and could you not get some chicken wire and wrap that around them (cats) so as to make it most difficult to cut...
