I have a 71 FJ40 with headers that I just acquired... it has a set of headers and an exhaust leak. In my parts from the cruisers I have had over the years I have two exhaust gaskets... does anyone know how to tell what they fit? 1F/2F? Is there a difference between gaskets for the stock manifold vs a header?

Thanks for the help!

I *think* the F/2F gaskets are the same, but someone will be posting up to tell me if I'm an idiot or not any minute. I do know that the stock manifold gasket will work with a header though.

no

one difference is that the OEM gasket has metal on the sides, aftermarket not

1. If you are looking at STOCK manifold gaskets, the holes for the manifold bolts will be larger on the 2F than the F. Not so with aftermarket [they all have the larger 12mm holes]

2. If you are looking at MOST header gaskets, they are made of a single kevlar composite, no steel facing or steel port rings. IMO, junk.

3. I don't recommend EITHER of those choices for a header install.

If you have more time than money, and don't mind doing the job over again when it leaks, carry on. Otherwise, a little thread searching for header gasket choices may yield other options.;)

Best
