I laughed when I saw this guys record book he kept for his 60. But at the same time , I would be thankful if I was buying it.
Nice rig if anyones looking for one. Check out the pics of the record book in the listing. He even wrote when he bought and added a quart of oil.
Also is that the OEM tool kit for that year??

I record everything I do and everything I buy onto an excel spreadsheet. Showing those type of records makes the resale value very high.

I used to do stuff like this, but not quite to this guys' degree. I found it scares most people away.

On the other hand my wife's best freind growing up had to have an engine put in her Acura at 60K as she didn't know you had to check, let alone change oil.

It just goes to prove that there are both ends of the spectrum out there.

I used to own and operate an automotive repair shop and yes, there is an amazing spectrum of people who are issued drivers licenses.

It took a higher level of attention to detail and a commitment to communicating these details when dealing with the owners like the one in this thread. However, I found I could enjoy the interaction with these owners who loved to "blog" their car details. Plus, I found I could give a higher level of detail to every client as a result.

Attention to the details are what I find are interesting, although I rarely do so on my own trucks.....

Did you notice how he drew the end of the dipstick showing the proper oil level. This guy is awesome.
I'd by that in a heartbeat if I was looking for another well cared for 60.
I Keep a record of all oil changes and parts added and maybe some part numbers of crap I installed. I also think it would better resale. It is something I would pay more money for.

If the book continued like that to date, it would be very clear that the motor was never neglected or run low on oil.

I would say that is adding valve to the vehicle when it is to be sold.

Can't say the same for the stuff I maintain....

Thispage here shows he paid a Toyota dealer $2000 to replace the intake/exhaust manifold. Can't beat that as a plus!

My father-in-law keeps a similar journal for all of his cars...always has.

I keep meaning to do something like this every time I buy a car. I think tomorrow is the day! How hard is it really to just go pick up a journal book and throw it in the middle console or glove box, whatever. I don't know why I never did this before, but I'm totally sold. How easy and how smart. Why?

For example:
Every time I do plugs I have to go on mud or other to find out gap.
Sometimes I forget how much oil the car takes when I go to buy some.
It would be good to know exactly what the mileage between certain maintenance items was.
It is easier to see just how much $ I'm dropping. (Wait a minute, that's a bad thing!)
I can remember a lot of things, but some things just deserve a log book.

Anyway, I'm gonna do it on the cruiser and on the little gas saver I'm buying this week.

i just got a 93 camry today with 271,xxx miles runs freaking awesome! I think i would liek to also keep a log book... guess i can start when i fill up (has half a tank) which will give me time to find a log book:hillbilly:

ditto. plus makes it easier to know when to do preventive maintenance.

Any one keep records like this guy?

I started to do that when I bought my wife's car, although mine seems weak and lazy compared to his. I mean, I've got oil changes and tire changes, but nothing noting when I checked the oil, or if there was something added that wasn't maintenance related. Guess I've got something to aspire to.

I've seen people document each fill up and calculate their gas mileage, but couldn't tell me when their last oil change was. Just goes to show what the spectrum is.

Sometimes I forget how much oil the car takes when I go to buy some.

This is why I write this info under the hood with a sharpie on all the vehicles I've got. I know rough measures (5 qts, 4 qts, etc), but it's a pain to be in the middle of an oil change and have to pull out the owner's manual to determine if it is 4.3 or 4.8 qts.

I wish the PO of my 87 fj60 was like that! He was an ass that beat the s*** out of the 60. I have spent a long time and a lot of money to fix his mistakes. I am totally serious the guy was an a******, there were handgun bullets under the pass front seat when I first go the truck!
