looked through FAQ didnt see this type. about to order it for my fathers 78 and wondered how it does. (He doesnt wheel, just for the street) Deluxe Power Steering Kit for FJ40 Land Cruiser - JTOutfitters

That looks like a minitruck gear box, fabricated bracket, and a Saginaw pump using a headbolt mounting bracket for the pump. Nothing unique about that setup. It is sold by many vendors and the parts are readily available from numerous other sources for less than $999

My mintruck example: gear box $100, pump $50, hoses $35, Bracket $120 I used a Tercel pump where the smog pump was so I did not need the PS pump bracket.

Who else has a complete kit? I would like to buy a factory one like my 79 but had no response in the wanted section.

After checking all the usual suspects it looks like JT is the only vendor selling a turnkey kit for minitruck power steering. All the other vendors are only selling Saginaw turnkey kits that I can find. Once wdorry sells out of his mini gear box pedestals it looks like JT will be the only game in town unless someone starts to fabricate them...

Search FAQ's, there is a mini power steering write up in there, it will give you all the info you need to do this. Cost to do mine was way under that 1k for that kit. Got the gear box for $100 bucks and the brackets from bill dorry and the rest of the parts from Napa and wham, driving life is soooooo much better ... ;)

This is a must do project in my opinion ...

I bought the Classic Cruiser kit. I also bought the JT Outfitters gear box bracket. The gear box bracket from Classic Cruiser had the same angle to mate to the drag link, whereas, the JTO bracket had a noticeable angle at the rag joint. Personally I would use the Classic Cruiser kit.

I bought the bracket...

I bought the top mount JT pump bracket. Very sturdy but had to trim it to fit around my valve cover (a small PITA).

Oh yeah and you have been officially warned if you want to do business with JT......do a search.

I have a working used setup for sale for 200$ pump, gear box, hoses, brackets, was working when I parked the the truck this summer

Too funny... I kept it very civil. I was conscious to leave out descriptive words like; "sucks"," :censor:", and ":censor:".

I thought it was a very zen like response.:)

OMG! here we go again:rolleyes:

Pump Bracket

I still have a few pump brackets @ $65.00 + $10.00 shipping. Bill

Jt's complete kit is far from complete. I got the version where you source your own steering gear box. Got a 4 runner box for about $50. Bracket had to be ground to fit and it didnt come with any hardware. Pump bracket isnt strong enough and flexes during heavy steering causing the belt to slip/whine.try gathering the parts youself. I think iron pig makes a heavy duty bracket, also 4 plus looks stout.

I have the mini truck steering in my 40 now, but I am changing to Saginaw.I can get the GM stuff used dirt cheap and they are much stronger.
I had drilled and taped 3 holes into the head and made a bracket for to toy pump. It worked real well.
The 40 is getting a 3B hopefully this summer so I will sag it .
Vic

If you ever think about going saginaw, I have a sketch that can be made easily. It's for a 67 impala or equivalent sag box. The whole process isn't that hard if you know a welder.
