Anyone have an Energy Suspension body mount kit installed?

I installed the "Energy Suspension" kit. It is hands down the best modification to better the ride of my FJ40, that I've done. Check out my thread, post 503 has some photos and such....

OP - you will love it once installed. It makes a HUGE difference in ride quality. FYI - I had a couple of bolts that I could not get out. Fought one for hours before going to Home Despot for a carbide blade. Saws-all ate it up in mere seconds. Save yourself time and just start there.

^^^ What he said!!!......X2...X4...X6........ ^^^^^

A sawzall is your friend.

On the Daystar kits, do they include the pads under each running board and the frame pad near/above the rear wheels? I think that is is reason I went with the Energy Suspension kit. :meh:

I have the Daystar. I haven't put the tub back on, but it looks like I have the same number of pads as the oem. I think I will have to cut the two that go in the rear tail lights as they need to be two pieces....I think.

I got the daystar kit, It doesn't come with any for the running boards. They also sent all SAE pads except one and all with metric bolts. very disappointed. I found the moulded area between the two pads caused a problem on a couple.

i did the daystar a few years ago and found that the front fender and other parts did not match up as they did before. Not really sure why not. So I would recommend placing the fender and other front parts on when you put the body back on and not have everything bolted in so you can adjust as you need.

best, ty

Sorry I dig up this old thread...

Got the Daystar kit from CCOT and I confirm it does not include the pad that goes under the running board and the frame pads close to the rear wheels.

What are you using for those ? Does it exists something sold to fit there ? (without buying another complete kit...)

Thanks!

I did the Energy Suspension kit on my ‘78 and like Rick @GA Architect said it made a tremendous difference in the ride quality of the ‘78. And significantly quieter as well. Still not a Lexus but very noticeable difference in ride “feel” as well.

How far off the frame does the body have to go for installing one of these kits?
Can the body be lifted far enough without removing the steering column and brake lines (and wiring and heater and etc..)?
Or is this really up to how rusted and stubborn it is to remove the existing body mounts?

I just double checked the 8.4104G Energy Suspension kit i purchased a while ago (not installed yet) and like @GA Architect said, it does include the running board and rear frame pads shown above. It does not include a new carriage bolt for the running boards that use those, but it does have a bolt and receiver plate for the years that bolt from underneath.

Yep but do you know is someone sell the running board and rear frame pads separably ?
Or maybe if you could measure yours (length, width and height) I can just search for some generic silentbloc, cut it to size and make the hole in them.

Because at this point my running boards and rear body are still floating in the air x)

Dimensions of the pads at the top of the pdf, except for the custom molded 4146 that wraps the metal plates. This raises an interesting question though; I just noticed that the pad listed for the running boards is half the thickness of the one that was attached to the supports I bought on mud. I guess we'll see once it's bolted up.

Edit: But the running boards I have are the carriage bolt style, and the diagram shows a thinner bushing with the rectangular bolt receiver on top. I'm thinking that's the later style?

Thanks a lot @BeerM3 for this!

Yes I agree with you, when I compare to my pre-resto photo the silentbloc seems more like your bottom left than top right. I think it's important this silentbloc is the correct size otherwise your running board is supported by the body when you step on it...

I think I'm going to look for something close to 4145 to use.

For the frame pad in the rear they don't include dimensions ? Thickness is similar to the 4143 of the kit ?
