Opinions wanted....What body suspension would you use on your 40? Which kit is on your rig and are you happy with it?

1. OEM ($$$)
2. Daystar - KT04003BK ($$)
3. Energy Suspension - 8.4104 ($)
4. ????

While replacing the engine, I have a quote to have my frame POR-15'd inside/out - top/bottom, as well as the underside of my rig from the tranny hump back. If I go this route, I'd like to replace the worn-out body suspension that is on my rig. Trying to make my '77 a more enjoyable and durable everyday DD for me.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have the OME (vs OEM) Old Man Emu Medium springs, greaseable shackles and Bilstein shocks. Very happy with the lift. On my last 40 I had a skyjacker lift. The OME is better. I know people who have run the hell for stout suspension and say it is to rigid

Talk to Kurt at cruiseroutfitters, he is one of the vendors on here and will talk to you about your setup and what you want out of the rig. Justin at Redline and IPOR are all good sources

I think the OP is asking about body mount kits, not suspension. At least that is what the daystar part number is refrencing

i thought the energy suspension was WAYY easier to install than the daystar. The daystar bolts for the front mounts aren't the right size (two different trucks with two different kits). I have had the nut spin in the rubber mounts of the daystar and it is very easy to crossthread them in my opinion. The energy suspension comes with mounts for the rear bed support as well as the running boards which the daystar does not.

don't think you can get OEM

Also, this may be useful when you start the process!

Thanks to all who replied so far. Looks like the "Energy Suspension" body kit is the preferred package of the individuals that have responded. It also has good reviews on MUD as well. Being I have some time, maybe others will chime in and I'll do a little more research before I buy a kit.

I used the daystar kit. In itself the kit is fine except for the "hockey pucks" that go under the truck bed ( check my build thread). There is no way to attach them to the body. I know bambigirl had the same issue. Next time I would go for the energy suspension

just my 2c

Next project for me.....

And you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner! Believe me, it was one of the best replacement/modifications/upgrades (whatever you want to call it) that I've done to my rig for driving, bar none.

However, it wasn't too hard to beat the original 38 year old petrified body mounts.

Can you explain the procedure a bit? I'm assuming you'll have to jack up next to the pad to relieve the weight and then pull the old mount/ slide in the new?

Big ass pry bar is simple

Exactly what I did. However, I loosened all the bolts first, then systematically replaced each one. Started at the left front and worked my way around to the right front, just hand tightened each one. Once all were installed, started at the right front and worked my way back to the left front torquing each one down.

Well CRAP....... now I’ll have a new ‘voice’ whispering in my ear: Body Mounts” 🔧:hillbilly:🔧
