anyone ever swap an oil pump?

it was pretty simple... The helicoil kit was ~$70 (cheaper than the oil pump but only by $60 bucks) and had everything you need: drill bit, tap and a few coils. slow and steady won the race
Any issues with keeping the drilled hole small enough to use the same oem bolt or did you have to size up?

I bought the kit for the oem size bolt... essentially, you drill the hole out larger, then thread it. The helicoil threads into the larger threads and the internal threads work with the oem bolt.

Great, thank you! I'm trying to anticipate all the potential huge problems that I could run into and this seems to be one of them. I'm also considering just replacing the pully itself and not touching the assembly.

Good luck! It was a pretty easy project and I suspect it was a previous replacement that caused the issue. The TB/WP had been replaced before (did mine at 200k miles) and my guess is that it was over torqued the first time.

I did miss getting the cam wiring harness tied up and the serpentine belt cut it but otherwise pretty painless

@Pick how did you keep shavings out of the oil pump?

Thinking I’m going to be doing this soon.

I stuffed rags in any holes but really just cleaned it REALLY well afterwards. It is fairly open so not a lot of places to catch shavings as I recall. Good luck!! As far as I know, it's still holding... I sold it back to the PO but haven't heard anything

Thanks.

I meant, how did you keep the aluminum shavings out of the oil pump since that threads are open to that area?

My apologies @94SRUNNER - I was out of coverage this weekend. I went back and found an old photo... the top read arrow is the bolt I drilled/threaded, the lower arrow is where the oil pan meets the oil pump and what prevents the oil pump from coming off without raising the engine. As I recall, the bolt hole didn't go all the way through but I cold be wrong. I drilled/threaded very slowly and tried to be cautious. I changed the oil immediately after the first start (note the cheap Fram filter) and changed it again within a few hundred miles. I never had any issues...
