Do you guys want to do snow. Or go up to the river bottom at Grass Valley to watch the yahoos play?

Alvaro

Why not do both? Half a day for each? I'm not familiar with the area, but I read that a good snow run would be up North Bloomsfield Rd (?) up to Malakoff Diggins, and the Greenhorn area has a variety of things to do.

Next year will have the house done and we could have a BBQ etc.

I'm all for running a sort trip later in the day. All of the trails that I know of are now closed for the winter. As for North Bloomsfield Rd. /Malakoff Diggins. UM... Not very high up I would say it is about 3,800 to 4,000. Not much snow there however it is going to snow to 3.500-4,000 sat. so they say. We could run one of the winter funfest trails . All ask the guys at CD Performance about that. So Greenhorn play then a short trail eh.

I got both, fj80 and a 85 x-cab. the cruiser won't get too far in the snow. my mini will do much better. I tired the snow on christmas day and almost didn't make it home with the family....

what is the meeting time and place?

We could do both. But if we get stuck there will probably be no trip to Green Horn. I'd rather play at the river bottom.

Sam, what time can you come out and play?

Regards

Alvaro

do we meet in Grass Valley or at the Chevron station (as previously mentioned) in Roseville?

anyone have a preference as to meeting place/time?

Ok guys......I spoke to Dennis from CD Performance about everthing and he said that he would like to go. So he has volintered to lead us. Always a good thing to have a toyota tech on the trail and he knows the area well. Also talking to him, the malakoff snow run starts at malakoff they loop up to the snow in the back roads come out in the town of Washington, and is a 8-10 hour trip with a group.

:)
1.
We could go down to Greenhorn and take the chalk bluff rd up about the Greenhorn area north toward hw20 it goes to about 5,000 ft I think however the snow most likely will only be aobut 2' deep there.

2.
He is planning to take us from Nevada City up HW20 to 80 to one of the short tail runs (this area he knows well) and some deep snow and then back to GreenHorn Creek for the fun. The creek action always starts late in the day being sunday and all.

Now for the catch..... In order to accomplish the mission we must leve the GV/NC area no later than 8:30am. This could put us back at GreenHorn for the fun at about 1-2pm.

Are you guys up for this?

I would say we meet @ the Gold Flat Exprees lub/76 8am

take the Gold Flat exit
turn right onto Gold Flat
then turn left not back on the HW but the next road Hollow way I think
It is a frontage rd
can't miss it

or

instead of you guys running out of the way up hw49
I could talk to Dennis again and we could try to meet you guys off of 80? I don't know where he is taking us but I think it is around the hw 20/80 junction. If we did this does meeting at 9 oclock or so sound ok?
Sam

Thanks,

let me know which way to go.

Option 2 sounds good to me. You guys can get a chance to get your snow recovery technique down to a science. Most likely I will be the one to initiate lessons at various times throughout the run, unless that stock 4Runner comes along too.

As far as trail difficulty, I'll put my max at a 3.5 out of 5, in case you guys plan on doing something more difficult.

NorcalSam, talk to Dennis again and see if it would be shorter to access that trail semi-directly via Hyw 80 to Hyw 20, or taking the Hyw 49 to Hyw 20 route as initially planned.

Assuming, Hyw 49 to Hyw 20 is shorter, or just to save people from confusion, the plan would be:

All people living WEST of Roseville would meet at the Eureka Rd Chevron at 7 AM.
Going on Eastbound 80, Eureka Rd is right after the Douglas exit. The Chevron is a couple of blocks in, and to the left.

We’ll leave at approximately 7:15 AM or so, and caravan up to meet @ the Gold Flat Express Lube 76 at approximately 8:15 AM

Directions to Express Lube 76 from NorcalSam, I’m assuming the exit is off of Hyw49 somewhere in the Grass Valley area…

take the Gold Flat exit
turn right onto Gold Flat
then turn left not back on the HW but the next road Hollow way I think
It is a frontage rd
can't miss it

Sounds like a plan?

Have fun guys! I won't be able to attend.

Carl

Sounds like a plan.
I spoke to Sam a little while ago.
For us in the valley, let's meet at the Chevron gas station in Roseville at 7am.
Then we'll hook up with the rest of the crew at the Yuba gap/Eagle mountain ski exit of I80 at 815am.

Regards

As you all know, just a reminder, don't forget your winter survival type gear, water, blankets, etc. Also, if anybody has onboard air systems please bring them, we will most likely be airing down and not everybody has them, including us.

Pics we took today

Here's a link to the pics we took. I need to find something better than Yahoo, cause the pics aren't very big. Thanks for the fun in the snow. It was fun to meet new people too!
