Just got back. Cool trip everyone. I wish we ran some trails (with rocks, small/medium sized ones), but theres always next time. The Greenhorn Creek area looks like a really fun place to play. Gotta go back there again sometime when the people there number less than a million. I think it was Ken who said "This is anarchy at it's best." I've never seen anything like that before. Reminds me of the underground rave party in one of the Matrix sequels.

John, I am glad you are not against returning to greenhorn. It really is a fun place to explore. It was out of control today. To all who came with us, thanks. It was nice to see Doug, Alvaro, Josh and his wife again. It was also really nice to have met some new people (Ken, Ko, his bro and cousin, and John). I hope you all won't be afraid to come back. As far as the snow, it was great. Couldn't have been better.

ok i made it out thanx to doug and the rest of that fine convoy. just wanted say much thanx to everyone for such a exellent trip, i had a blast, and as far as the river bottom they have a saying for that "what does'nt kill you only makes you stronger" or something like that.

Stuck pic

I want to post up my stuck pic that Alvaro graciously omitted. Plowing through the drifts was fun. It's the deepest I've been in the snow. Airing down to 15 psi really helps out a lot, but when the snow is almost up to the hood...

good morning guys. that was the best snow run I've even ben on. can't wait to do it again. the next time i'll bring the 80 with the wife and kids.

as far as green horn goes... kinda felt out of place there. my boy way scared .... he said, "dad I don't think we belong here. look at all these crazy people. I'm scared dad, lets go home." yeah my brother felt the same way. but I like it. we'll run it again when there's less trafic.

Ko, I don't think any of us felt like we fitted in there. Don't think you're alone there. There was just way too many people there because of the Winter Fun Fest weekend, even though its not even held there anymore. It seemed like everyone of them was doing their own thing. "This is anarchy at it's best." That statement sums it up.

Seems somewhere along the way we broke the birfield. Took the truck to Dennis this morning after hearing Clunk, Clunk, Clunk, Clunk, Clunk, and I could keep going on and on. Didn't sound good. Otherwise all is well and we had a great time.

No not locked up on asphalt at all, just in that sluce box area and some in the snow. I think there was a problem already there and that greenhorn was the straw that broke the camels back. We never heard anything at the creek, it wasn't until we were on the paved road going home. Go figure. I think my truck also has more miles than most 1994's at 185,000.

That sucks. There probably was something wrong beforehand. We didn't do anything that tough, but that sluice box could have did the damage. I was scraping through there, with even more so on the way back. Luckily, I had Alvaro spotting me, while you guys all went through alone. Although the miles are a bit high, its close to the yearly average. But 185,000 miles is 185,000 miles.

Had you service them regularly?

I am surprised to. I thought that with 285 and the size of thoughs birfs that would not happen.



But it did break. We did however do a lot more wheeling after you left. But Harder on the truck than what you saw all class 3 to 4 obsticals and short trails at very slow speeds etc. And you should note that neither Tree or myself locked the front locker at greenhorn creek at all. We did lock it twice at the snow Tree had both locked that is why she needed help from winch. I also locked them both in at the top where we turned around where you and I tried to make room for the others and I back why up out of the way I got stuck so I locked them and turned the wheel back and fourth to get out. We did not here anything coming back to the creek from the snow. As Teresa said we have hered these noise before months ago but only when we turned up a steep hill and then back sharply the turn around.



Are you talking about the bell houseing/Constat velocity joint itself. What service We bought it at 146,000 It had just had a tune-up . I changed all the fuilds to syn. I have done a tune -up 164,000 I rebuilt the front brake calipers and repacked all the bearings. It was not worn .....It cracked. Dennis told me that" it is just a Toyota week point well know and that I could have pack it with grease every day and it still would have cracked. That is why they make stronger ones."



need to order parts tomorrow. And I still don't know what parts I need to order etc. If I want the longs.

Well look at the bright side. now we in the Broken Birfield club

And we didn't get stuck on a trail on a class 2 or 5 hill climb during a vacation

And we didn't have to try to change it in the snow or mud somewhere. While trying to read how to do it.

The sunday run was fun though thank to all for coming up. The day was prefect and the snow was awesome. We all did pretty well in the nice new snow even the stock newbies (snow scrapers) . Well they didn't seem to like the deep drift much. After Dennis (our snow run guide )left to return to the creek mudness. I got to take the lead and cut trail never run in such deep fresh dry snow with the cruiser. She cut a trail and charged though effortlessiy like a sherman tank. I was pleased and I even started to get a little on my face. The snow was starting to blow up over the hood. The snow got a little deep for the non lifted trucks and we had to turn around air back up thanks Alvaro and get down to the creek we were buning day light fast. We just tried to do to much in one day. It would have been nice to give others a turn at cutting trail. I think Ko and Doug were getting board back there. Ko made easy work of the deep stuff with his nice and light toyota pick-up.


Headed down to the creek way to late. When we got there .....It was holy . Over twice as many people as last year coupled with the fact that the heavy rains had washed out both of the 4x4 trails that get you up the creek further. Everyone was on the same trails and in the same part of the creek bed. Well liqured up and totaly out of control ......... it sucked sorry guys we didn't know it would be like that and we just wanted to show you what is has to offer there. We tried to take you up the creek but it was getting late and ken did not like the looks of that class 4 trail ahead. That is ok on a better day we could have taken a class 1 to 2 road over and around. we didn't even take our cusier down that way with the lift and ARB I waited for the sliders and Luke bumper first. John on the other hand. I think your nuts .... we got to get that man a lift and protection right away. Most only know about the creek bed, sandy hill climbs, water etc. But there is some good wheeling spots and short trails. With some hardcore stuff out there. We live like ten minutes away from there and wheel there often.

We stayed for a little longer whatching some nut on a motorcycle climb and jump though cliffs. Said Hi to Dennis and some other people we know. Then we went back though that trail again and all the way around to find that road was gone to about a 10 ft cliff John would have made it.

That was cool to see that stock cruiser do that. That area is not good for a stock cusier. Man you hit the whole way down and coming up the nurf bars bent up quite abit to.

In contrast, when I go though that I drag the D shakle on the rear bumper thats it.

It’s always good to look on the bright side.

Over the Thanksgiving break, my EFI relay blew and stranded me after my trip to Prairie City. Luckily, it didn’t blow until I got to my Aunt’s place. Of course, I didn’t know it was the EFI relay until I had bought the Igniter, and then the Coil. At least I got to return the Igniter though. They (Kragen) were giving me crap, but finally gave in because the guy that sold it to me said that I could return it. Now the funny/scary part is, I had originally planned to go up to the mountains, out of cell phone range, by myself, without telling anyone where I was going. I’m taking that as a warning, and I’m not going to wheel alone anymore.

As for me being nuts, maybe, I guess. I’m just looking at things differently. I want to run some trails, and I’m doing it the only way I can, which is with a stock car. Running trails in a stock unlocked Land Cruiser is even more fun to me. It shows whether or not the 80 series is all hype or not.

I think it’s obvious (or maybe not) that I don’t want to trash my car, but I don’t mind scraping and dragging it across the rocks, otherwise I wouldn’t take it to the trails in the first place. Like I said, I want to go back and give that trail another try.
