Greenhorn/RedDog

I'm Sam's wife, trying to post some pics of greenhorn earlier. I'll go tomorrow to check out the creek level. I don't know what the he......I'm doing with these photos, but as Sam says, I sure like to talk about green horn creek. Tree (Teresa) or NorCalSams wife. But the truck is mine.

That looks cool. I just checked the forecast, and it looks like rain for the next 4 days or so. From the pics, it looks like gravel, and thats good because I don't really like mud much.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that Malakoff Diggins is a good place for snow wheeling? Thats where they have that WinterFest thing right?

As far as I know Winter Fun Fest is all around the nevada county area. As far as their santioned event they go all around nevada county, I think. Up to washintion ridge, alleghany and I'm sure Malakoff is Included. They don't include Greenhorn anymore which was the origional river bottom games. Those are a blast. It would be great to see more 80't there. It is the Suday of WinterFunfest. You really don't want to miss it. TRee. I'll try to find somepics.

I think we were the only FZJ 80 there and don't really have picts to show for it. I downsized some other funpics of the 2005Sunday Winterfunfest, I guess not really part of the sanctioned event. Yes it can get out of control. Just be smart, be safe, have a good time. Foremost, all who come don't ruin our area. Be respectful. Pack your trash out.

Sorry, I'm trying with pics
Teresa

We definately need more 80's:) :)

Teresa,
As always; that can never be said enough. And to go the extra mile, pick up any trash that you see.

Went to Greenhorn today. Pictures show that the creek has been very high as it is not possible at this point to cross and continue on reddog road. This is usually an easily passible road, even with 2 wheel drive. There is another spot up the creek but I was by myself with our 2 kids and didn't want to take the chance of getting stuck down there. Supposed to get alot of rain here during the night tonight and 5 inches tomorrow. Water levels will only rise. Doesn't look like an enjoyable 4x4 day trip. I think we should think of another trail.

I was watching the news and thought to myself that 3-6 inches of rain IS a lot of rain. Pretty much all of Norcal is under a flood watch. Then I thought about that Taiwanese river crossing that was posted a while back. So, do you know a trail with no water crossings?

Yes I do know of other places to go with no water crossings etc. However, I don't know if they are open or not its about that time of year that they close roads for the winter.

Everone that I have called tonight is not home or the line is busy.

There are a lot of forest roads and trails to lakes in the Grouse Ridge area.
like the roads from hw20 to Bowman Lake. It can take you all the way out to Jackson meadows res and hw89 and truckee. but is closed in the winter

We have just received 5" (that is about 75% of what we get in total precip for the YEAR!) of RAIN in the Reno area with more coming through Monday. I-80 is closed at the CA/NV border due to a severe mudslide...the State Patrol stated it would be 2-days before they could get it cleaned up. We have flooding in the Reno/Sparks area as well as more highway closures, due to mud slides, north of Truckee to Quincy; Hwy 395 at south Reno is closed. Wild weather eh?!

just courious ,did you guys break out the anfib or resecdule. i would be interested if you fellas decide on another trip (as long as we dont have to break out the pontoons. call me a chicken if you have to.) thanx

Just got back, lc1996 and I tried to go run some trails, but we couldn't. We moved a downed tree, but another bigger unbroken one blocked the trail. Downed power lines blocked Highway 50, and then everybody in Norcal decides to head up to Tahoe. Tried to get to the trail another way but snow was too deep, actually just too deep for me, lc1996 was taking care of business.

Even though mother nature was denying us the opportunity to run trails we planned on, John and I stilled had fun exploring and playing up on Iron Mountain. Here's a couple of pics...

Let me try the pics again...

What is up with all the storms? Supposed to get about 1.5 more feet of snow from this current storm, and snow level is down to 3500 feet.

Looks like we're going to be playing on the snow tomorrow. We'll meet at the Union 76 gas station in Pollock Pines at 10am.

Alvaro

Pollock Pines, so I'm assuming your going up on Iron Mountain Road? I've been up there twice already this Winter, so probably won't be heading up if thats your plan. However, do you think running the Strawberry trail would be doable? And if so, would you be interested in doing that, or any other moderate trails you know of in the general area.

Beretta,

I don't think Strawberry is not doable this time of year.
About two years ago, we tried to do it in the spring and it was very tough. There was a lot of run off and some of the easy obstacles were almost impassable.
It's a steep trail that poses almost no challenges in the summer. But I would not recommend it in the winter time.

We are plannig to go up the Mormon Emigrant trail.

Regards

Alvaro

"I don't think Strawberry is not doable this time of year."

Double negative, so it IS doable then...

Alright then, I kind of thought that it wasn't doable. Probably lots of snow up there, so should be fun for you.
