Got mine today and have it installed already. I'm trying to find the perfect home for it. While on top of the steering column is easy, it blocks most of the cluster warning lights. Anyway, awesome product. I got mine off Ebay, $159, free ship, took two days to get here.
does this thing do anything useful? I really don't need another tachometer of water temp gauge.
Can it estimate remaining mileage with present amount of fuel? Can it be programmed for service reminders?

Yes, it will estimate mileage with the present amount of fuel, as well as remaining hours of operation at the average consumption rate, etc. No it will no do service reminders. If you know the OBD-II system you can send raw commands across the bus with it and receive the resulting data.
Yes, but since this thing knows the hours of operation and the speed at which is is driven it would be hard to calculate and record driven mileage.
My daughter could use something that would give reminders for oil changes and tire rotations.

I think so. The primary thing for me with being supercharged and have some past overheating issues is the water temp and having a number. Even with the mod to the OEM gauge, I still like to know a number.
Add to that the trouble code diagnostics and the ability to clear those. And then the trip computer stuff, which from the sounds of it, once you get it dialed in are fairly accurate.
I've seen a few online service reminders that will send you an email, but those would just be off date rather than mileage. You could be on to a money maker there, figure out something that goes inline with the odometer and blinks a light after a set interval for things.
I want a Scanguage that has settable high limits, so when your engine temp goes over 205 degrees (or the temp of your choosing) an alarm goes off. How about if your voltage drops below a threshold? - that'd be nice.

Thanks for posting that up!! I've been wanting a tranny temp readout and now it looks like that may be coming. On top of that, it looks like for $25 folks should be able to send in their old Scangauge IIs for a software upgrade and end up with a new & improved Scangauge II that allows users to program in other gauges
I know there are other parameters that the computer measures but the existing Scangauge II doesn't display, yet

I have been enjoying the real time data, that I get from my scangauge II, on my 1995 80 series (OBD II) for a year now, with no issues.
I am OBD II certified, with a manufacture date of 2/1995
(sorry, earlier I posted I was OBD I), but here's my sticker.
I get real time data for: Charging voltage, coolant temp, mpg, throttle position, ignition timing, engine load, actual horsepower(using new code),trip functions, current and prior fuel tank data, averages for all inputs, no fuel pressure readings, but dozens of other data readouts to drive yourself crazy with.
It will detect non-compliance errors such as the dreaded PO401, and others, to help you keep your rig runnin' right, I found it relatively easy to learn, given some time.
I installed it on my steering column, and can still peer over it, to see the bottom row of idiot lights when necessary.
Best $169 I ever spent on this rig. Best $100 ever spent was on an FSM

This web site OBDII - On-Board Diagnostic's System - Does My Car Have OBD-II? The Connector and Communications. says that a 1995 Toyota Landcruiser was ODBII certified, but it might not be fully compliant.
Some Toyotas were ODBII certified in 1994 like the T100 and Camry, but again may not be fully compliant.
1996 was the year that all cars were required to be ODBII compliant, but as you can see some models got certified earlier.
