Anti theft on LC's

I know this has been on the fourm before, but I wanted to ask again, just to see what you would all say.

Last night I was watchin Cops on TV because there was nothing else on and there was a car chase, after the guy finnaly stopped after being surrounded by cops I noticed that he was driving an LC, yes a stolen LC.

So I didn't think to much of it, I went to work and during 1st break, the cops show up, and I see a friend of mine in a panic, he owned a 1989 4 runner with a 22re and it was stolen out of the same parking lot my truck sits in less then 50 meters away from our guard shack. So I'm thinking this is some kinda sign, if they knew what my LC was, I'm sure I would be the one in a panic right now, so I need to explore my options.

An alarm would have probably alerted the gaurd in this case, but my truck is 24V and I hate alarms, I saw a picture once of some kinda braket that attaches to your floor and has a lock that keeps your stick in neutral, it looked like an easy good idea.


I dunno I need something thats for sure maybe a kill switch, I know CLUBS are usless, and so are most other devices if someone has a hack saw or battery operated grinder, but then again the gaurd shack is close and something is better then nothing.

I have a switch on my 80-FJ40 that allows me switch to an alternate ignition system with a center off position that kills everything. A smart crook might figure this out, but it will take some time.

With a 3B there is an easy option, using the oil pressure sensor.
Disconnect the wire from the sensor and conect it to a switch that switches the wire to the sensor or switches to the ground, and hide the switch. When the wire is switched to the ground, you can start the engine, but in some seconds it will automatically shut down! To test this metthod, you can disconnect the wire from the sensor, atach it to the ground, and start the engine, the watch the effect it creates (shutting down).

Another good method is a pulse switch in serial with the starter wire, that way, to make it start, you need turn the key and at the same time press the switch (In a hill this is useles, because you don't need the starter to make it run).

But i think the first works very well. It will give the thief a good headache, because it starts normaly but a few seconds later.......

Eric, the question is what do you hate MORE? A stolen truck or an alarm or antitheft device? I don't much like alarms either but my truck has one that has two locations where there is a starter interupt as well as using two clubs, and sometimes clutch lock.

Talk to folks about car theft and the main thing is to make your truck harder to swipe than the one next to you but DON'T expect to make it un-stealable. If they want YOUR truck you're out of luck, they WILL get it. They can get around everything.

Wasn't there someone on mud that kows or deals with the Lojac system, i know its a kind of after its stolen system but what the hell you can get it back.

Get an alarm and use it.
Why your at it, add a fuel pump cut off.

Then even if they do get around the alarm they will not get far before loosing prime on the diesel and starving it for fuel. I doubt they will spend the time to find the switch (which purpose to them is unknown), then trouble shoot the problem, and finally reprime the system. As soon as the truck dies, they will crank on it for a bit, and then say its broke and run. You will probably recover your truck within a few hundred meters of its stolen location.

I WISH I had done this to my truck. If so I would still have my BJ60. It was stolen on Nov 12 2005 in Abbotsford and never recovered. So don't think your safe. These trucks are desiarble,and some people want them, so bad they will steal to get em. Make sure yours is that much harder to steal.

Alarm, (with an egg), club, cut-offs. That and a pedal/shift lock system for when it has to be left for a while (leave alarm off for battery reasons).

I doubt anybody who wants to steal a car would appreciate any attention while he's doing the job. That's the real purpose of an alarm. To raise such a noise that people can't help but look. If you take the trouble to install an alarm that also disables your car you have a very good chance of not losing it.

Granted that any alarm can be disabled if given even a very short amount of time. However, car theives will not want to take that time but would rather be away before witnesses can get a good look at them.

I think a switch tied into the edic, as well another into the low oil px, combined you stand the chance of it not leaving.

clubs while useless to some, might persude less advanced car thieves to look away. Much the same as a large dog inside that is not so friendly.

I will probably do a few well hidden switches and might install an alarm, Another way if youy have to leave the vehicle for a long time on the street for a extended times, pull the steering wheel, and maybe the gas pedal. It can't have the appearance of an abondoned car otherwise the bylaw parking freaks may have it towed. Other options maybe pulling a shift leaver. like the transfercase one, with it stuck in nuetral.

With a whole bunch of things like this, other than the thiefs coming in with a tow truck, it should be safe.

Oh ya and CND cruiser all rusted to hell. should be enough deterent...........

What is this? sounds interesting? Anybody have a link?

I have a kill switch that isolates the ignition circuit, If I am really worried I take the trany shifter and the coil wire with me.

That way if I see something going down I cant beat them with the shift lever

Funny Brownbear , but that is is what I use...a switch for edic power...quick and easy...I also put the x-fer in neutral , doesn't seem like much but it might fool some of the stupid pricks out there .
If they show up with a tow truck you are @&@&@&@&ed anyways.

I'm parking 10 feet away from the gaurd shack tonight. This is BS i'm worried about my truck getting stolen in the parking lot of the multi billion dollar company I work for. Cheap bastards.

I live in Central America most of the year where armed car jacking is NOT unheard of. The club is simply an "un-invitation" if you like, a way to make it less desirable to saw through your steering wheel than to take the clubless vehicle next to yours.

I use two clubs arranged such a way that you need to cut the wheel twice. There is also an inside siren that is so far up in the dash that I can't even remember where it is or see it for that matter! I'll be looking into the low oil pressure cutoff as a starter interupt as well since I hadn't thought of that yet.

Having said all that I stand by my earlier warning that if they want it badly enough you WILL lose it regardless of what you do!

I hate theifs!

If you wire into the low oil px sw. you will start and run for like 5 seconds, before the edic shuts er down.

to kill power to the edic, there is a b-w wire coming from the starter fuse(7.5a) that runs to the edic relay and also the starter relay,
if you cut into the wire at the edic relay you are cutting power to the relay which sends power to the motor to position it for start. ( have not done this yet, I am looking at the wiring diagram).

Also there is four wires going to the edic motor, it is not easy to see which wire puts it into run to start, so I think killing power to the relay is easier, unless someone on here knows the wire(either Y,G,Rand L)

Also if you have neutral sw, you could tap into that.

Also the starter relay could be tapped on the coil side,(b-l, or w-b wire)

But I like having it crank but not start, makes the thief think the engine is just sh----ty.

A combination of hidden kills in certain areas will definately screw over a would be thief. They can't guess were you have them. They could be labeled fog lights, or cargo lights.

or hide under your seat......

if you did a second push button somewhere, you could make a tap into the starter relay circuit, when starting the key needs to be depressed to start and also the button pressed. Who would think of that?????

good luck Eric, just start with the edic relay then get more complex as time goes. Go to radio shack and find a small switch.

Couldn't you put a cut off valve on the fuel line? The rig would drive a bit then
die. Then the thief ditches it for one that runs.

I wouldn't put a cut off valve in the fuel line on a diesel, cause then you might have to bleed the system after it was used. Maybe.

Sorry but I am a little new to diesels. What is a EDIC or OIL PX? Does the IHZ have these?
