Anti theft on LC's

Don't have a picture right here (and wife has the cruiser), maybe later, but a MulTLok is basically a hitech padlock mounted to a 1/4" steel arm, attached to the tranny hump. The hasp of the lock goes around the shifter, locking the truck in reverse. If someone has time to break in, hotwire, defeat kill switch, and then drive the truck away in reverse..... well.... I suspect that there isn't much I can do!!

Still, when parked for longer periods, there are other things that can be done as well. When I install my SVO system (soon!) I'll include a ball valve from both the diesel and the SVO as a backup to the electric valve. If I'm away I can leave both ball valves shut off, stopping fuel. Just one more thing to slow/deter a thief.

and a club. I've got a club. but I'm not sure where it is :) haven't used it in years as I just plain hate putting on/taking off the damn things.

Wayne: as a note, most of us don't even lock our doors around here most of the time. There is plenty of petty theft, but in the last three years I've only heard of one person having their actualy car stolen from them. The car was found the next day. I'm sure it happens more than once every three years, but car theft isn't common.

yep, i can understand that and it is the same here, very few cruisers go missing but then in the Vancouver area it seems to be a very real problem...
cheers

It does, but then the cruisers seem to get recovered again at least. Nic's apparently has surfaced now. I asked Charles about the details and if I could help Nic, but no response yet. I've gotten lazy with the alarm with starter kill, but use it as the minimum for anything daily driven, and if parked any length of time one, if not two clubs go on. Mul-t-Lock looks interesting.

it was there when I bought the truck-- there is a company here in San Jose that installs them. I imagine that if people really wanted... I could coordinate buying several and bring them up to the states next time I go (probably in August)...
The only thing about it that I don't like is that it requires me to carry around another key, but I went ahead and had the multlock keyed the same as my office safe, so now it is more or less a non-issue.

Hey Sandcruiser,
when your truck was stolen, did you have any devices on it at the time? if so what was it?

I just remember your ads about it stolen at the time.

Yep, my 42 was stolen in Vanc from the PO and recovered, partially stripped (wheels, brakes, some other stuff I can't remember--records are in storage)--looks like some disreputable cruiserheads needed some parts...

Didn't have *any* security on the vehicle when it was stolen. Maybe a club... but I think not even that. Since then, I've become more careful.

I figgure it's mostly just a deterrent - I bought a few feet of chain and some padlocks from crappy tire, I chain the clutch and brake to the steering wheel - easy to remove, but better than nothing. Also, if I'm leaving my vehicle for a while I'll take the fusible links of my positive terminal - or a little more hidden - I've replaced the links with ATC fuses, single completely covered things of black plastic - take out the fused and put the cover on - everything looks normal, but nothing will go. Just don't leave anything leaning on your horn button when you put the fuse back in... it's a bit loud.

The 12HT (maybe the 3B) is very easy to start, without the key, with juste a piece of wire! No need of electricity if you are ready to push it for crank
I've put an electrovalve on the gasoil tube, close to the tank, between frame and body, so if someone stole it, he couldn't go aways more than 600/700 metres
