Great idea for a build. I am trying to decide if I want to jump into this and eliminate my 3FE, or if I should just sell it and keep the 4Runner.

JEFF ./..... CHECK THIS OUT!!!

I am double checking, but 99% of this is accurate so far.

Drive by wire

You'll need this for DBW.

I want it so I can have Cruise.... :)

Sweet find!!! I was cutting off the old motor mounts this weekend and looking at the cruiser control assembly. After reading the link it hit me that the ECM can control the speed since it was DRW. VERY COOL!!!

Status on finding an engine: I'm currently working with 3 salvage yards and still not have drive train.

Jeff, I'm very excited to see this thread. I almost started this swap a year and a half ago, but then I got shipped out of town for work, and everything got put on hold.

Have you checked Ebay? There are always at least a few "complete swaps" for sale on Ebay for reasonable prices. Some are higher mileage, but I saw quite a few w/ less than 50k when I was looking.

Good luck!

As many know I own a shop and work on anything, these LS engines in real world service are going 3-400k with no issues, I would not be concerned about buying one with 120k on it.

I got my engine from ebay with 40 miles on it... Yeah four-zero.
It was not that cheap but it was complete with harness, accessories, tranny, cats and exhaust manifolds along with PCM...
You'll be better off getting a complete donor vehicle as this will prob help yah meet any emissions in your area..

If you need to get the Camaro oil pan.. get it from GM Parts Direct: Your direct source for Genuine GM Parts.
On some engines you do not need the new dip stick as its too short...

Good luck with yer swap..

Yep. I plan on posting places, part numbers, and prices so y'all can get an idea what your in for.

I am subscribed and especially after this post.

Started cleaning up the engine compartment today. Cut off the motor mounts, pressure washed everything, painted the bare metal from cutting off the motor mounts, and pulled out the cruise control assembly. I also sanded and painted the air cleaner since I plan on reusing it. I also started delooming the wiring harness to take out things I do not need. But a little voice told me to wait until I have the engine in so I can see what I really need.

Meet my little friend

We all can agree that having the right tool is good. A few months ago, I bought this 3/8 electric impact gun. I wanted one of these for years. It came with 2 lithium batteries and a charger. It has been a HUGE time saver than using a socket wrench! Got it off of sears.com.

While you have everything apart you may want to pick up some spray/paint on sound deadener (maybe one with ceramic) to do the firewall well. I don't know what your plans are for the truck, but a thermal/noise barrier might be cheap and something you're after. I know www.secondskinaudio.com is/was a site sponsor and I've used their products before with success.

Good luck, looks like a fun project.

DUDE!!!!!!!!!

Check this out. I don't know how he's doing it NEW for 500 bucks but here it goes.

psiconversion

I'm debating. HMMMMM. Maybe we could give him a few specifics and he can do a custom harness for the Land cruiser guys? HMMM.

I bet it would be about the same price. I think next week I'll start looking for the connectors that Toyota uses for power and ground and such; in hopes of actually PLUGGING GM harness into the TOYOTA one without cutting splicing etc. It's far reaching, but you never know if you don't look right? Can't forget we need to get the cruise switch data over to the GM ecu so it knows whats going on. DBW cruise control. ;)

Hopefully they'll do a conversion for a 3FE............

They offer a harness, they sold it to someone and those pics are from the guy they sold their harness to. (it looks like)

They offer the GM only harness to do conversions. I emailed them about the integration to the Toyota harness, possibly for a bit more, albeit a plug and play unit. Either way, it's someone's time making it...+

Hey warped, thanks for the link on the cruise control, I got that ready to go...
