If the price is right, the Toyota "UPRIGHT" winch is the next best compared to the 8274 , Reason is the Toyota upright are expensive to buy, and expensive to repair and quite rare in North America

i like the heat overload safety shut down. they took a great winch and made it better.

the low profile winch new from Toyota is $6K, i never priced the upright.

Hahah u guys saw the pics of the Aisin winches and got a hard on and vice versa with me over the M8274....

Lol you took those picciex from Mudah.com.my......I saw those two winches a while back.

That low mount would be nice.

So whats it to be? 8274 or my refurbished 9000ilbs Ramsey?:p

Holy Cow ! $6000.00

the new remotes from Japan are $1400 ... ouch.

yeah apparently I was really lucky to have my factory winch controller.
The person who bought my 81 didn't care about the winch, I should have took it off as I really liked it. I am on the hunt for a cheap 8274 to redo and replace my xd9000i

I've been loving my 24v 8274 but can't say what it's like up against other winches first hand. I have thought an aisin winch in the rear would be nice though depending on how compact and heavy they are

Hey bro i finally did the unthinkable.
I bought a Ramsey winch......

Not...

I acquired a M8274-50....
Anything i should do to the winch before installing it?
Fit in drains holes?
Upgrade wirings?

Don't mention Gigglepin coz i can only afford to Giggle as laughing is free of charge lol...

Anyway was talking to the fabricator who's gonna fix up the winch. He mentioned he is gonna use 6mm steel plates.
You reckon it is sufficient or leave quite a lot to be desired?
Or i would need to go far thicker at 8mm or 10mm?

Or as long as the 6mm plates are well gussetted it should be fine?
like this

instead of the winch place without a gusset

when observed from the side.
Just concern about the winch plate flexing.

Of late i also realised that our Warn isolator has been acting up.
However the price of one cost quite a lot of $$$$$$$.
Would you guys consider using a winch style solenoid as a Warn isolator replacement?
A friend suggest this idea.
Does anyone have tried this setup?
Or knows what wires connect to which pole on the isolator?
I was thinking of using those solenoids commonly seen on these China winches.

Only pics i have of the winch plate for now.
It's constructed out of 10mm plate.

Sorry for the late reply. Realised that the photos didn't go through.
I noticed there isn't an edit button on this forum.
Anyway this is the pics i posted of the truck without the bullbar but only with the winch base mount which was built to fit a lowmount.
My only concern if i can use this as a base for a highmount or do i need to extend it to accommodate the high mount.
Hope it's not too daft a question.

There is an edit button its in a different place to the ORS EDIT button.

SImple BUY the 8274 - reasons
it pulls harder
it has longer wire - essential for the malaysian jungle
it can be modified to add a oil drain and refill plug
it can be modified to take twin motors (www.gigglepin.com)
it takes a 6HP motor easily (change to a ALBRIGHT solenoid and dump the CRAP WARN ones)
it appears to take an absolute hiding and total neglect - I should know I bought it neglected and left it for 4 years before doing maintenance
its higher up hence out of the mud and water more

I may be putting a GOD winch in the TROOPY also but im still keeping the 8274 for rescuing other vehicles - e.g. your Mongrel truck

Wow, I have missed out on all this.

So BG, where is the finished 8274 mounted picture?????????

8274 if it was me.

It is a winch that has proven itself over and over and over again.

Looks like you have a fairly capable vehicle...so when you get stuck...you'll REALLY be stuck.

The 8274 comes with (or will hold) 150' of 5/16" cable, that can really come in handy if you need to double line or use a snatch block to pull at an off angle.

If you want to save money find an old one and refurbish it.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Flint.

He already went for new 8274.

^^^^^^^^^

Good choice then..... ;) :D
