I've been waiting to see what you picked up. Nice score! Definitely stick with the mustard. It looks great

Thanks KruiserK, I remember you and me looking through craigslists ads all the time, did you find one yet?

Well Christmas came early, my shipment from CruiserDan came in, THANKS! All new rubber (every piece), window felts, trouble light, hub caps, shifter knob, factory hose clamps, emblems, ect..... I can't stop myself from buying all this stuff, IT IS A SICKNESS. The paint on the tub better be kick ass to match all this new stuff and the chassis I cleaned with a toothbrush and a dremel. ;)

My wife thinks I'm nuts. I am.

Blocked my frame down over the weekend to put a 3rd coat of Chassis Saver, love that stuff, on the frame. I have poured acetone, brake fluid , you name it on the Chassis Saver with out a blemish, even hit with a hammer. The stuff is TUFF!

Also got a couple of coats on the axels. Looks a little shiny but turns to a great satin finish when fully cured. Need to spray some rustoleum semi gloss black on the outside and front of the frame since the Chassis Saver is not UV resistant.

Next up, replace all the brake lines with new and start assembling some stuff when I get my yellow zinc bolt kit from Dave!

Thanks King Kong, have a question for you guys...

I am going to coat the chassis saver with a coat of Rustoleum semi gloss black. I think the rustoleum will give it protection from UV and a provide a nice uniform coat that can be easily touched up later. A bit overdoing it, but I think it will be worth it.

Can I just steel wool the harder areas (axles) to give it a tooth for the rustoleum or should I try and sand it by hand with sheets of sand paper?

if you're looking for a satin finish I would recommend this....Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black Paint Satin Aerosol 14oz

Used it on my back bumper....absolutely fantastic finish/sheen....I didn't want the semi gloss of the rustoleum.

Wow...chassis looks great.

Major Nelson, what prep did you do before spraying your back bumper? Did you use the eastwood primer?

subscribed. Love to see another 77 going way more OEM than mine would ever be. Cool

I used the rust encapsulator from Eastwood. Just sanded the bumper down to get the loose rust off....came out amazing...was almost tempted to leave just the rust encapsulator and not top coat it looked so good to me...much happier I went with this vs rustoleum.

I just looked at ordering 2 cans of Eastwood Chassis Black but at 50 bucks shipped is really that much better than Rustoleum with 3 base coats of Chassis Saver under it? I can get the Rustoleum for 5.50 a can and it is readily available at all the nearby hardware stores for touch up in the future.

After all the prep I have done i don't mind spending the extra cash I just want to make sure it's worth it.

Anyone use any other products to top coat their frames?

All my prior experience with VHT products in the past has been stellar , just have to follow their instructions to the letter if you want results , especially with header paint . Just about any high-solids industrial paint works good and I'd bet the VHT is as good or better than Eastwood .

Just read some really good reviews on VHT, and it is available a couple of miles from my home. Think ill go with this and report back with the results. Thanks

What a great rig. Fantastic work so far!

Throwing in my vote to keep it mustard ( if you're not already decided). It's such a unique and classic color - perfect for your classic cruiser.

Keep it up!

This is gonna be beautiful. I too, love the stance of the lift and tire wheel combo...nice work!
