your welds look dang nice!
are you going to go with some type of gusset or angle iron for the bumper support inside the frame rail?
more pics.

Dam, I didn't think anyone got pics of that!!!!

Amazing how close that cat looks to Lincoln..
Even closer when he is on a bender ;)

making the new custom front spring hangers...note now nice and cleanly that 5/8" bit is drilling the 1/4" steel....gotta love the Drill Doctor!

front spring mounts were made by welding together two pieces of 1/4" thick 3"x3" angle....should be plenty beefy!

...a bit of black paint to make them look purty....left the topside unpainted for welding....

with that done, it was time to make a custom shackle mount. 7/8" bit used for the hole, 1/2" x 2" bar stock for the center piece, 1/4" for the two outside plates, final thickness of 1".

you can see the slot in the photo above where it will insert thru the bumper...this pic shows that it goes ALL the way thru for greater strength, sticks out about 1/8" on the backside for additional welding.

and finally, the finished bumper with the shackle in place. I REALLY should have remembered to do the shackle prior to bumper install, blind welding on the backside wasn't easy!! (and yes, I'm only doing one shackle mount...see no reason for two!)

I like it!!!

Wanna make me two shackle mounts???

:D

Probably,
Next year's xmas present will be about right

Hey as long as I don't have you towing me around I'll be just fine ;)

Just FYI-

If a hard point is not bolted on, the tech dorks at Dresser will not pass your truck...

But who cares about that place right?

ya, knew that...which is why the stock holes for a tow hook are accessible...couple of butter bolts in there, good to go :D

woody gave me the idea to feed my shackle mounts through the bumper for welding on the back side, and it seems to work very well. i was in the process of making my mounts when i found the heims in the tractor implement. saved me some time, and i think they look pretty sexy. oh, and i welded mine on BEFORE i mounted the bumper :)

Woody, If that's sloppy welding then I hate to see what the hell mine is called. ha

well, decided to recess the rear packs into the frame...so, out comes the sawzall...

since so much frame material was removed, a 1/4" steel plate was cut up (thanks HUGELY to a buddies Miller Spectrum 650 plasma cutter) and positioned...

another shot of the positioning with a few more vice clamps in place....I also had to loosen/remove the body mounts on that side and jack the body about 4" off the frame rails to make room for welding the topside of the plate....

more pics pending later this week....
