An FJ40 that runs on water??

A mechanic friend of mine is experimenting with electrifying water to produce hydrogen gas to use as fuel. Supposedly the only by product is carbon dioxide and water (as steam). It would be easier to put this on an engine with a carb versus a fuel injection system, so I'm told. Has anyone ever heard of this crazy voodoo business?? If it works, I'm considering trying it on my truck. I know diesels use injected steam for more punch.

i've heard this before. also, about 3 months ago i saw a story on the news about a guy in Fla. who had worked it out and was currently in discussions with a car company. haven't heard anything since. sure would be nice.

I'd be stoked just to get a Hilux that could run on algae diesel, that takes the same amount of carbs out of the air as it grows, that it puts back when you use it.

Good luck! I have a post on here some where in the chat section just look it up using my name and you will see how the discussion went. LOL!! I still will say some day it will work but right now it isn't. You are a little off on your understanding of the way it works but that is cool some further reading will get you steered in the right direction. If you have any questions I can't find time to get on here that often right now but PM me and i will do my best to answer your questions. If nothing else it is a cool thing to try just to show yourself that you can produce very flamable fuel from your drinking water even if it doesnt give you better fuel mileage.

At the rate you can generate hydrogen using 12v@100amps, it would take a week to generate enough to run the engine for a few minutes.

There's a guy here in town who did it to his van. However his set up is a hybrid type, runs on gas but hydrogen is also being utilized to stretch the MPG.

a****** statement of the day - It's interesting to see the correlation between post count and opinion on hydrogen fuel replacement. IMO, there may be merit to stretching MPG by using H2 and leaning the mixture, but if it was viable, and didn't impact the longevity of an engine, we would see it from the factory.

Ever use electrolysis to de rust a part? Then you were making hydrogen and oxygen. These guys are selling snake oil as you would need so much electricity to produce enough hydrogen to make a meaningful dent it wouldn't be feasible. Your money is better spent on doing a CNG dual fuel conversion.

The guy's that make these kits are selling them hoping that nobody really researches this. It's not possible breakdown h20 with the cars electricity and make enough energy to power the engine and sustain it. If you study it enough you'll find that the car actually uses more gas when this system is installed. Check out brown's gas, he had this same system out in the 80's and they finally found he was a fraud.
