Always been a Toyota guy, but now I think I'm a Cruiser guy.

I've been a Toyota guy since 1987 when i purchased my brand new 87 4x4 Pick up. I wheeled that truck from 1990 to 2002. With a growing family we needed more room so we picked up a 87 4Runner and did a SAS, and gave it a 200:1 crawl rate ect.....

We stumbled on to a 71 FJ40 2006 that had been sitting for about 15 years and fell in love with it. I think thats when things started to changed for me. I stopped thinking about wheeling all the time, and started think about cruisers all the time. As shown in the attached pictures.

So my question is there any hope for the 4Runner, or is the 40 a passing fad?

no hope for the runner...sell it and put the $$ towards the building the 40 instead...just the way things are

There is room for both! DQ runs in the 71 and Rock Crawlin in the 4Runner.....

I think 4runners fill a niche that your 40 can't. It can comfortably be driven many miles(my dad made weekly comutes between North Carolina and South Central MO from a few months in his 85 4runner and I doubt anyone would want to do that in a 40.

If you can afford to keep both, I would. Do you have kids? The 4runner could make a good first vehicle.

youll want the 40 more and more on the trail so youll be spending money to mod it up and then why have the upgrades on the 4 runner just sell it and enjoy the sickness of owning a 40

I thought about selling my 4 runner.... borrowed it to my brother for like a week.... I was lost... when I got it back I decided I could never sell it... :-) keep it or you will be sorry!!

It all depends on what you want to do with the Cruiser.

For instance, I am restoring mine, so I doubt I'll be hitting the trails once it's done. I mean I could, but I just want it to Cruise in on those nice days. I know I'll be getting some feedback for doing this, but truth is that right now I do not have the time for trails, and this is not my daily driver, so why not restore it

To go a step further...I've even thought about getting an older Runner for some trails, but I still can't find the time to go, so I let that idea go :meh:

Stick with the 4-runner. I'll take the cruiser of your hands. Nice truck! :beer:Ned

Stick with the Cruiser, I'll take the 4runner off your hands.

Its a shame, that 4runner looks great, however so neglected. I say if your not using the runner sell it to somebody who will use it. Any Toyota should not be sitting not being used, it should be out doing what it does best.

Put the runner on Yotatech.com, plenty of people will want it.

I know I'll regret selling the 4Runner. I think I'll wait a year and see if I've used it enough to justify keeping it.

The 40 will stay stock, and hopefully restore it once the kid's have headed off to college.

I had an 84 with 150,000 original miles and NO rust. It was a great little truck and I sold it to a friend 3 years ago. I was sick for a month about it but I knew it was in good hands.

He kept it 3 years and managed to put 6,000 more miles on it. He called and said he was thinking about selling it but I had just bought my first FJ40 and I couldn't afford it. I talked another buddy into buying it and he tells me all the time how glad he is that he bought it. My first buddy that sold it has called twice and said he is sick about selling it and wants it back.

I have always said "never love anything that can't love you back" but it is very hard not to love these old 4x4 Toyotas.

Moral of the story is this: If you can afford to keep it, keep it and have no regrets. If you can't afford to keep it, sell it to someone you know and keep it close, so that someday you might get it back.:grinpimp:

I think the 4Runner is loosing the war. My hope is to take the 4Runner to Cruise Moab this year. Hopefully that will breath some life into the wheeling bug. If not it might go on the chopping block.

Is the Runner jealous that the Cruiser has replaced it in the garage? Better be careful or it'll begin spitefully losing fluids all over your driveway.

when i baught my 80 i went threw the same pondering now im trading my 4runner for my friends 60:D

I love the look of your green (sea foam?) 40!

I still have my 80 pickup. Keep thinking of selling it to put more bucks in the Cruiser but it's nice to have both.

The FJ40 has taken over the garage.

Another one in agreement here:D

As long as they're both paid for, it costs you nothing but insurance and space to keep them.

They are both unique rides with unique uses.

The 4-Runner is more comfortable on longer rides, can haul more and has the ability to carry the kids and dogs (if you have them) in relative comfort. It's quiet and should get decent mileage even with the meats and gears as compared to most rigs.

The cruiser is, well, a tank:D A great trail rig and a great _good day" top off cruiser:bounce:

I currently have an 89 FJ62 but had a few years ago, an 85 4-Runner SR5, lifted on 35's and looking good.

Some f-tard stole it and it ended up in Ga. on or should I say at the bottom of, a power line road, a crumpled mess:frown:.

I also had a 74 FJ40 and sold it when the boy was born.

Wish I still had both of these rides.

One of these day's I'll own another 40:cheers::cheers:

Merry Christmas:beer:
