Hey guys, I'm strongly considering buying an Alu Cab RTT. I wanted to build something like @LandCruiserPhil campteq because I like the way it sits on the roof without needing a roof rack.
Since I moved away from all the CNC and tools I had access to, it's still an option if I have the schematics and have two weeks all to myself. I currently have a TJM RTT on top of my trailer but don't like climbing all over the place (I wouldn't keep it if it was on the roof of my truck.) Takes too long to deploy and pack, I have grown old, fat and lazy. I was going to pull the trigger on a James Baroud but I couldn't put gear on top of the RTT and the fiberglass shell is warding me off.

The next best thing is the Alu Cab made of aluminum, it gives me the ability to strap gear on top.
I'm thinking I can weld some more cross bars to reinforce the roof so I can walk on it without worrying about flex. The price is within range of Maggiolina and James Baroud. I have been talking to two distributors regarding prices, maybe I can arrange a group buy if there is enough interest.
There is a shipment coming in at the end of January but they sell out quickly.

Alu-Cab - Australia

The Alu Cab is 56" wide, the roof gutter to gutter is roughly 50". I don't mind the 3" overhang on each side since I was going to mount some lights under the rack. But I can't do those crazy tight trails like dusy ershirm, I heard it's hard and trail is insanely narrow for the cruiser where body damage is immanent.

I spoke with a vendor today, he's wiling to do $3200 shipped to Fresno, Ca. This is the best deal available, I think I will be ordering two.

Doesn't Tepui Tents make a RTT that takes a load on top? It's a new item this year, look pretty nice.

Looks like they do have one but I much prefer the Alu cab aluminum shell over composite. Tepui is $3250 + $268 tax + $300 shipping = $$3818 to my door.

I'm going to get the Alu Cab ALL DAY LONG!!!

I wonder what the RTT is to the left of the Alu-Cab Aluminum version 3 in their video?

That was my thought.

Need a damn Icarus for the 80. But I get it, there isn't the market for 80s that pays the $ that defender owners drop.

Hence, no more campteq. (Except for Phil that constantly taunts us with his pics)

I got the tepui from kickaterter. Wouldn't have been able to do it at retail price. Paid $2500 but was able to sell my free to me RTT so was really only $1400. It's a bit lighter and more aero than the alu-cab version. If tepui wasn't just down the street from me I'd have gone for ale-cab .

in for the alu-cab group buy

I am looking at the Alu-cab as well. What vendor did you get that quote to ship to Fresno? I am working in Visalia at the moment.

Thanks, will check them out. I want to mount the tent on a load rack on my Tacoma.

need 3 more to make this happen, anyone else want in? we have two confirmed orders.

Looks like the Icarus roof top conversion tents for Land Rover defenders, maybe?

That is correct, it is an Icarus. We have an identical one sitting here at the shop.

Ali-Cab does make a pop top conversion for the 80 but I'm not a fan of it. One other thing about the Icarus for the Defender 110 that most people don't realize is that the roof of the Defender is a bolt-on item. The factory roof can be removed and the Icarus bolted on with little to no other modification (minus some seam sealing). The 80 roof would obviously need to be cut out which brings with it a ton more work too.
